Audio Research BL3 Balanced Line Driver Convert from Balanced to SE

BL3 post-preamp. Used to convert Balanced preamp output to Single ended for an SE amp. Typically used to eliminate hum/buzz etc from using long interconnect runs in order to place the amps near the speakers.

I purchased this to use with my LS5/II preamp, but never installed, as I use my speakers quad-amped, and I could not find more of these. My amps are not balanced, and I finally just moved my system between my speakers to minimize IC lengths.

It also has a headphone jack, so I assume you could use it as a Headphone amp on a system with balanced outputs from your preamp!

This looks brand new, I've never connected it, and there is not a single blemish I can see.

Here is what Bill Johnson had to say about the other BL products - excerpt from a stereophile interview:

"Although I will say that, in recent years, we've been able to design good-sounding solid-state products—like the BL1 and BL2—that have only unity gain. We're using an IC chip with significant buffering both before and after it, and we've found that we can just about equal vacuum-tube sound with that, providing we stick with unity gain. The minute we try to have significant amplification with them, of course, the results are not as good. "
