Peter Lau, the designer/owner of Audio Space, created the Pre-2 as a refined version of the Wada Shigeho preamp, which is an advancement of the Marantz 7 circuit.
The 6SL7 tubes were chosen instead of the 12AX7/12AU7 tubes resulting in a much more musical presentation.
A large 2300 gram stabilizer bar serves as a damping device and to minimize microphonics.
For those familiar with Audio Space, the Pre-2 represents an affordable entry into the most natural, liquid, full sounding midrange, that even preamps costing nearly twice as much can't duplicate.
All this without sacrificing detail and soundstaging ability.
Audio Space has also won Japan's Audio Excellence Award numerous times; something no American manufacturer has achieved.
Although not part of the Reference Line, the Pre-2 will embarrass many preamps in sound and build quality.
