IF INTERESTED IN THIS ITEM, A BUYER ON ANOTHER SITE HAS MET THE RESERVE OF 250.00. THEREFORE I MUST HONOR THAT OFFER AT END OF SALE AT 5:45 PM EASTERN TIME FRIDAY 2/24. PLEASE, IF INTERESTED, THE HIGHEST OFFER ON EITHER AUDIOGON OR THE OTHER SITE WILL BE HONORED AT THAT TIME. THANK YOU

First some background on Avid. Avid was a small speaker company located in Rhode Island during the early to mid-1970's. Their line of speakers, beginning with the 100 series were critically very well received and considered stiff competition for other, better known speakers before and during their day. Very little information is available on Avid, since their name was sold and another company produced far inferior speakers. The 103 was the top of the 100 line, and will probably be remembered by anyone who ever heard them and by audio enthusiasts who consider vintage equipment a rewarding hobby.

Now for some facts. The Avid 103 is a three-way air suspension design incorporating a 10" high compliance woofer with butyl rubber surround, a 4.5" air suspension cone mid-range and a superb 1" dome tweeter. Crossover frequencies are 500 Hz and 3500 kHz. The front panel features a 5-position mid-range and high-frequency control switch. Frequency range is 33Hz to 18 kHz. The cabinet is 25" x 15" x 9 5/8" and weighs 38 pounds

The pair for sale are in excellent condition. The cabinet is well finished with only a few minor imperfections. All drivers are original and function perfectly. The lows are warm, deep and well defined with no boom or distortion. The mids are like wise warm but detailed to bring out the best in vocal, acoustic, classical music etc. The tweeters are renowned for their extension, clarity with no harshness and smooth delineation of any variety of music. Power handling is from 20 watts (ideal for tube amplification) to 150 watts. The speaker grills are perfect with the original AVID logo on each. Included are an unusual pair of speaker stands which are a perfect fit, cosmetically and functionally for the Avids. The stands not only raise the formidable Avids about 5" but provide a slight upward tilt so the speakers are at ideal listening position.

Whether you are familiar with the AVID 103's or have ever heard them they are an exceptional vintage classic "New England" speaker, which will easily compete with the more publicized speakers of their time. This is quite a rare opportunity to own these classics.

Speakers will be shipped in separate boxes and very well protected. I will email an invoice to the Buyer for the exact shipping amount via FedEx (which I prefer for such shipments).

Thanks for taking the time to look these great speakers over.
