"Brahms composed this music during the summer of 1878, and led the first performance, with its dedicatee Joseph Joachim as soloist, in Leipzig on January 1, 1879. Jascha Heifetz was the leading figure among the extraordinary group of Russian Jews who dominated violin playing in the second and third quarters of the twentieth century. As a technician he had no superior, and, of all the artists of his time and later, only two or three could even offer a challenge to his electrifying precision of execution. His diamond-point tone and quick vibrato afforded his playing a clarity of line that some felt was almost too perfect, even cold. Most conductors and other violinists ó and audiences ó felt differently and a Heifetz concert inevitably drew sell-out crowds." - AMG.

Clean, clear and detailed sound. This is a re-issue of the famous 'Shaded Dog' pressings but in re-mastered in Digital. This is NOT the RCA .5 Series Audiophile Series even though the jacket states that. It is about 85% of the quality of the 'Shaded Dog' but the clarity and micro-detail don't reach the quality levels of the original.
