FOR SALE: Excellent condition Cambridge Audio 640P MM/MC Phono Pre-Amplifier. Per many reviews, this unit out performs many higher priced units. It currently sells for $170.00. Selling because I have upgraded to a tubed phono preamp to match my tubed stereo amp. I've spent many enjoyable hours listening to vinyl on this unit. What Hi Fi magazine states: "The 640P phono pre-amplifier (sometimes known as a phono stage) uses superior amplification circuitry for its MM and MC stages to provide the lowest possible distortion and noise. In addition, the flagship model employs multi-parallel capacitors to achieve exceptional RIAA accuracy of only 0.3dB up to 50kHz and features a defeatable subsonic filter. The Azur 640P phono pre-amplifier employs a comprehensively specified Moving Magnet stage, as well as the higher gain needed for compatibility with high-end Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. This raft of technologies combines to offer a hugely dynamic, involving and open sound. They also state: "The 640P delivers brilliant sound for the cash playing Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run, impressing across the board. It makes the most of vinyl's inherently superior timing, integrating instruments seamlessly while leaving each one secure and rigidly focused on the stage. Tempos cruise effortlessly, bass notes start and stop with straight-edged alacrity, and there's intimacy and emotional weight to voices."
