Used - Picked this up at an estate sale. Audio Technica ML150 OCC- Phono Cartridge, gold Plated beryllium cantilever with 1.0 mm MicroLine stylus, PCOCC Wiring PCOCC - stands for Pure Copper Ohno continuous cast wire. The OCC process for refining copper was developed and patented by Professor Ohno of the Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan and is licensed to our manufacturer for use in the production of wire and cable products for the audio/video industry. In conventional processing, hot molten copper is poured into a cooled mold for extrusion, resulting in multiple, fractionated crystal structure. While the copper may be "pure" in the sense of measuring gas impurities in the copper in comparison to standard copper refining techniques, Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) has undesirable effects that lead many to use more expensive materials such as silver for their conductive strands. As developed for A/V cable use, the OCC process utilizes a heated mold for casting and extruding, with cooling taking place in a separate process. The result is a larger crystal size and increased purity that approaches the 6N, 99.9998%! Looking at it another way, traditional copper has oxygen impurities of 200 to 500 parts per million (PPM), while traditional OFC copper reduces that to less than 10 PPM. With the OCC process, the figure is cut in half to less than 5 PPM of oxygen, and less than 0.25 PPM of hydrogen (compared to 0.5 PPM for OFC). manufactured in Japan by Audio-Technica specifically gorgeous sounding AT-ML150/OCC phono cartridge. Cartridge has been tested works and sounds Great! was considered one of the best cartridges Audio-Technica ever made. There's a used one selling on eBay for $329.00 Buy with Confidence- Impeccable Perfect feedback! 151 transactions dating back to March 1999! "Smooth and clean transaction, item even BETTER than described! Thanks Jeff!!" "Great communication. Very honest and straightforward. No BS! Highly recommend." "Great guy, good seller, excellent communication, fast ship, 5 star A-gon'er" Posted on Various Forums: A 1985 spec sheet for the AT-ML1XX/OCC line was amongst the paperwork included with a recently acquired AT-ML150/OCC. All four cartridges share the following specs: 1) 4.0 mV output; 2) 30 db@1kHz channel separation; 3) 1.25 +/- 0.3 gram tracking force; 4) 47 k-ohm load; 5) 100 – 200 pF load; 6) 10 X 10-6 cm/dyne dynamic compliance; 7) 40 X 10-6 cm/dyne dynamic compliance (ML140 is 39 – close enough for me); and 8) 25.7 X 16.8 X 17.3 mm cartridge body dimensions. The only spec/data that are unique for each cartridge are price and frequency response. Better frequency response = higher price. (Everything that follows ignores the above specs). Based on the specs the only difference between the ML140, ML150 and ML170 are their stylus assemblies. The ML140 has a tapered aluminum cantilever with a .12 mm MicroLine stylus, the ML150 has a tapered gold-plated beryllium cantilever with a .1 mm MicroLine stylus, and the ML170 has a gold-plated boron pipe cantilever with a .1 mm MicroLine stylus. Their bodies/generators appear to be identical in that they weigh the same and the three specs that appear to be generator related and the ML150 and ML170 English owner's manuals I'm assuming these specs are generator related). These specs are: 1) nominal impedance 2.5 kohm@1kHz, 2) inductance 380 mH@1kHz , and 3) dc resistance 730 ohms. ML180 has the most unique specs and shares only two specs (boron cantilever and channel balance) with the ML170, and none with the other two cartridges (remember that we’re ignoring the information in the second paragraph). The ML 180’s three generator specs described in the preceding paragraph are: 1) nominal impedance 1.4 kohm@1kHz, 2) inductance 240 mH@1kHz, and 3) dc resistance 310 ohms. In addition, the ML180 weighs more than the other three (7.5 versus 7.0 grams) and has a different tracking angle (23 versus 20 degrees). Its stylus is a .08 mm MicroLine. The channel balance is 0.8 db@1kHz for the ML170 & ML180 and 1.0 db@1kHz for the ML140 & ML150. All AT-ML1XX's are labeled OCC and other that the name their bodies are cosmetically identical - gold except for the white ceramic mounting plate. The ML150's stylus assembly is black, the ML170's is silver, and the ML180's is gold. Output terminal from the coil, surprise of pure transmission in full PCOCC of up to lead. The body is rigid body of a ceramic base, It is a center model of VM type.
