CAT (Convergent Audio Technology) JL-2 Signature MkII Stereo Amplifier

CAT JL2 Mk2 Signature for sale. 100 wpc of class A tube magic. This JL -2 is serial number 1261. It left the factory for the first time in 2004. I bought it in 2008 and have enjoyed it since then. I returned it to the factory in late 2011 for re-tubing and the Mk2 Signature upgrade. All new KT-120 outputs and small signal tubes. And now . . . it’s for sale. Situation and priority have changed. This is a chance to own one of the best amplifiers ever made for a reasonable price. The Signature upgrade replaces all circuit boards and their components, so other than the chassis, transformers and PS reservoir electrolytics, you are getting a new amplifier. It is worth reading the Soundstage review of this amp. The description in the review agrees with what friends and I have concluded – it combines the midrange musicality and glow of triode tubes with bass control and slam that would embarrass many big solid-state amps. High frequencies are extended and detailed without harshness, but again smooth and musical – in this regard it is more like –and in many ways better than - a good Class A solid state amp like an XA.5 series Pass, with which I have directly compared it. Unlike many tube amplifiers that approach its musicality, it will drive substantially any speaker. The power rating is very conservative as the Soundstage measurements show. It will come in a wooden crate that covers the factory box with another inch of foam and plywood, so it will be very well packed if shipping is necessary. Local pickup in the Minneapolis area is better still. Right now it is running the new input tubes from CAT, but I have other NOS choices available.
