I'm the original owner and purchased the Oppo new in Aug. 2010 and had it sent directly to Modwright to get the mod.
From Modwright: "The mod includes clock upgrade, external PS 9.0 tube-rectified power supply and entirely new ModWright tube analog stage, replacing all stock 2CH analog circuitry from the DAC out!
Price for Modification only = $1495. Customer must supply player ($500 retail).
Mod also includes stock power supply upgrades, dedicated clock supply (MWI design), and chassis and transport damping.
Driver tubes are 2x6SN7 and 5AR4 for the rectifier.
The sound is open and musical with excellent body, weight and harmonic richness. Detail, resolution and clarity are perfectly balanced with warm midrange and fast, deep bass.
The mod transforms the stock $500 Oppo BDP-83 into a player performing at easily the $5K+ range!
Parts used in the mod include Takman carbon film resistors, a single MWI capacitor in the output stage, per channel, ModWright power supply decoupling capacitors, Nichicon Muse caps and soft-recovery diodes.
Clock upgrade is Burson Audio, fed clean and pure power by our own dedicated and heavily filtered and regulated dedicated clock power supply.
Tube stage is powered by our PS 9.0SE supply, featuring tube voltage rectification and dual-discrete SS voltage regulation.
Mods are for 2CH audio only and do not disable or limit multi-channel or video functions in any way.
Mods benefit ALL audio formats (blue-ray, CD, SACD, DVD, DVD-A) equally!"
