THE XDS1V2 IS $25,000 PLUS THE "V3" UPGRADE WHICH IS $4500 = $29,500

This is a mint scratch free flagship product of Ed Meitner of EMM Labs in Calgary, Canada. It has been upgraded to the "V3" status which is the newly designed analog PCB from the DA2 DAC.

Too much to put here so go to the review of the V3. READ REVIEW BELOW.

from Dagogo:

The upgrade involves replacing the entire analog board that contains the DAC converter circuitry. Both the analog and converter circuitry are quite different than they were before, which is why it made sense to simply replace the entire board. A key component to the redeveloped board involves power distribution to both the analog and conversion circuitry — power distribution being an area in which there have been new learnings and developments in recent years in such sensitive areas. The changes in circuitry and power distribution represent nearly a decade of learning, and would be complex to describe specifically. As Ed Meitner said to me in a call, “It’s not just one tweak that gets us where we want to be…it’s a global thing. Everything has to play together. It is important to understand that the new board represents an overall process of continuing improvements, not just one thing.”

The end goal of the process is clarity, transparency, and musicality, the latter of which in this reviewer’s experience, sometimes seems to get left on the cutting room floor. After a month or so of very happy listening, I can sum up this upgrade simply: The upgrade is a terrific success and worth every penny for those who already have an XDS1.

Let me begin the listening descriptions with comments about a series of SACDs, from which one would expect excellence from EMM Labs.

The Absolute Sound

Anthony Cordesman “natural, musically realistic sound”
October 2010
“The most musically natural SACD and CD player I have yet encountered. A true pleasure to listen to! I owe HP one for introducing me to EMM Labs. I should also say that I am making the XDS1 one of my references… and more than a bit of a breakthrough in terms of natural, musically realistic sound…”

The Absolute Sound

Harry Pearson “Editor’s Choice”
October 2010
“The sonic evolution of CD players at the high end has become so intense that it is small wonder that hard on the heels of his outstanding TSD1/DAC2 two-piece two-channel system, Ed Meitner has achieved his magnum opus, a statement CD player that has no traces of the things we normally associate with “CD sound,” that is, an identifiably “digital” character, or, for that matter, an identifiable characteristic coloration”

Phil Gold “musically satisfying”
August 2011
“In short, SACD performance is raised to unmatched levels in my experience, while CD comes closer than ever before to SACD. In every single area of performance, resolution, timing, transient response, decay, image size and depth, frequency response, dynamics and tone color, the XDS1 improves on all digital players I have heard before….this is the state-of-the-art, and as musically satisfying a machine as I could wish. For that reason, and for how it performs in comparison with other expensive hardware, I am forced to admit it represents good value for money too. You can’t get there for less.”

Dagogo

Fred Crowder “a great foundation”
August 2010
“…the XDS1 exhibited a wonderful control of all sounds, with a balanced presentation that is truthful– not warm, not edgy, not syrupy, just liquid, with very solid, well-articulated bass. The XDS1 provides the music a great foundation. It is very controlled….in the end, particularly given the level of performance vs. price, buying the XDS1 was an easy decision.”

TechRadar

Alvin Gold “perhaps the finest”
December 2009
“…we observe that this is one of the finest sounding SACD players we’ve ever used, perhaps the finest. And although we weren’t able to fully explore the ability of the digital input, on paper at least, it should be something very special.”

Questions for the seller
I've been reading and following EMMLabs for some time. What I've read is very interesting to me. But..... I have every excellent Meridian 606.2 right now . So to spend this much on a minor upgrade is questionable. Nonetheless. I will look at this carefully and if it is still available at the beginning of next year(or possible before) I may well take the plunge. Can you direct me to other reviews and /or info about this most recent upgrade, the V3? Also what is the new DA2?And finally does the V3 have a USB port? (it seems that this is the future, but not mine so far).Thanks.
Well, in my opinion Ed Meitner is the man. He’s not as known as others because Ed Meitner does not advertise. He invented SACD for Sony and discovered “Jitter” Go to EMM Labs site and read “about” Ed was the first one in audio to Cryo cables and tubes. He runs a small company in Calgary. I’ve had his CDSE, then the MA1 DAC, then the XDS1V2 and now the DA2. The DA2 is his newest 25K DAC. It’s similar to the V3 except the digital system is a previous generation. Yes, it has USB and every other input that you can want. Read, read and read. Computer Audiophile founder Chris Connaker is a big fan and so am I. Your Meridain is good but there’s a huge difference in EMM Labs top tier products and the Meridian. Just search and read [filtered]
