Elizabeth Maconchy was born in England, but grew up in Ireland. She wrote the Serenata Concertante for Violin and Orchestra in 1962. It is written in four movements in chamber-music style rather than in the grand orchestral manner. Also in four independent movements is the Symphony for Double String Orchestra written in 1953. Vernon Handley conducts the London Symphony Orchestra.
