This recording was made in Watford Town Hall, a short distance from the center of London. The auditorium, as its name implies, was designed and constructed for purposes more than civic than musical, and there is no real stage. The area used for the orchestra seating is commodious and comfortable, though, and the architecture of the building makes it particularly good for the performance of music. It is admirably situated for recording, too; the surrounding area is largely residential, and there is a minimum of the “big city” noises which so often plague a recording crew.
