"By winning the Tchaikovsky piano competition in 1958 and thereby beating the Russians on their own turf in their own repertoire at the height of the Cold War, the young American virtuoso Van Cliburn was instantly catapulted to international fame. After a quickly arranged tour of the Soviet Union, Cliburn returned to the United States and a ticker-tape parade in New York City. Cliburn's Carnegie Hall debut performing Rachmaninov's Third Concerto on May 19 with Kiril Kondrashin, the Russian conductor who had accompanied the pianist in Moscow, leading the Symphony of the Air, the then-current name for RCA's studio orchestra, was hailed as a triumph. And when, a year later, the LP of the performance was released using RCA's Living Stereo recording technique system, it sold more than a million copies, the first classical record ever to do so." - AMG.

RCA Red Seal .5 Series Audiophile pressing.
1/2 Speed Mastered from the original multi-track Master.
Improved frequency response, lower distortion and higher levels.

The '.5' Series present the classic RCA Living Stereo Series in an up-to-date Audiophile sound.

The record is NM.
The jacket is Exc.
The LP plays Mint-.

A very dynamic, up-to-date re-mastering.The Piano is captured with all it's force, dynamics and tonality. The Orchestra has much more detail and definition as compared to the original "Shaded Dog".The Orchestra sometimes overwhelms the Piano on this newer release. The original had a more 'you are in the audience" perspective while this newer release places you first row center. The soundstage is large, imaging is exact and definition is razor-sharp. It sounds more like a modern day audiophile pressing ascompared to the original's warmer, more 'romantic' presentation. Either way, both versions are superb.
Surface noise consists of some very low-level 'crackles' on both sides and about a dozen or so audible 'ticks' on Side 2
Price has been adjusted to reflect this.

Each record is washed on a VPI cleaning machine using a proprietary 3-5 agent process which is determined by the needs of the individual record. Each record is then listened to 100% to insure that the posted description is exactly what you can expect to get.
