"In the 1950s, Mercury records established its musical reputation largely with two intense, exciting European conductors performing miracles in the American provinces: Antal Dorati in Minneapolis, and Paul Paray in Detroit. With the less potent Howard Hanson advocating American music in Rochester, Dorati took most of the Austro-German, Hungarian, and Russian repertory, with Paray treating the French literature as far more than leftovers. Paray's interpretations were generally faster and more sharply pointed than those of the period's two other great French conductors, Charles M¸nch and Pierre Monteux. His Mercury recordings are the high point of a long, distinguished career spent largely away from the world's most prominent podiums." - AMG.

"If you can ignore the tape hiss these Mercury Living Presence recordings of Antal Dorati leading the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra would be among the finest ever made. Along with the tape hiss, Mercury's engineering captured every nuance of the performances with a clarity and lucidity that few later recordings could match." - AMG.

The LP plays/sounds Mint-.

Superb sound quality. It has tremendous dynamic range, a wide and deep soundstage, natural sounding instruments with "air" and presence, deep bass transparent high's, sweet strings, biting Brass etc., etc. Strings are lush and full while still being highly detailed. A very impressive recording.
Surface noise consists of very low-level 'crackles' on quiet passages only and the occasional, random 'tick'.

Each record is washed on a VPI cleaning machine using a proprietary 3-5 agent process which is determined by the needs of the individual record. Each record is then listened to 100% to insure that the posted description is exactly what you can expect to get.
