The MF2250 has probabally the best midranges I've heard from a
solid state amp under $10K. Bass is tight, fast, and articulate. Treble is
accurate, natural, and non-fatiguing. This is an "A" version (upgraded power
supply) direct from the factory at the time of original manufacture. Conrad
Johnson certainly didn't skimp on parts quality for this, the smallest in
the MF Series. Nichicon power supply cap.s, Vishay voltage regulation,
feedback, and control resistors, many of CJ's proprietary audio grade caps,
Sanken resin encapsulated transistors, Cardas RCA input and binding post
connectors. To summarise the design topology, this is a low feedback (4X) JFET
input, Bi-Polar output class A/B push pull solid state stereo amplifier. The
only thing worth mentioning (?) about the amp's condition are some wear on
the binding post nuts and slight scuff marks on a few of the plastic DC
rail fuse holders. In living with the CJ for several years, I made some
effective improvements that have increased the amp's performance. All 6 fuses
were replaced with audio grade: the Mains fuse is a Rhodium plated
Furutech, the 4 DC rails got Acme Audio Lab cryo'ed fuses, as did the 32mm fuse
on the main PCB. I put a small square of ERS paper above the power
transformer, and Herbie's Grungebuster washers on the tranny's mounting bolts. As
you can see from the picture, I replaced the stock feet with brass cones
(screwed into the factory holes), and it sits on a 1 1/2" thick Maple plinth
with Mapleshade Isoblocks in 4 corners. These are all effective "tweaks"
that I believe should accompany the CJ to it's new home. At well over $200
retail, I can't simply give them away. I'll handle that as follows: any offer of
my asking price will include all the aforementioned. If I elect to accept
an offer of less, the amp will ship with stock feet, fuses, and no plinth
or Isoblocks. Sorry if this is confusing, I do not mean to imply that I will
sell the amp for $750, or sell the tweaks separately. Pay Pal add 3%
