After shifting to digital music, in order to listen to Apple gear
through my home stereo, I initially plugged into the headphone jack and ran that
into my system. That’s clearly the worst approach one can take with digital music.  While listening is subjective, I felt this rDock-uni
made the most dramatic difference in sound quality than any other system
modification I made to that point. The harshness of the digitized music is
eliminated, providing a "warmth" and smoothness, making music far more
listenable. There’s greater separation between the instruments, allowing each
to occupy its own space in the music. You can hear the detail of unique
percussion instruments and fingers sliding on guitar strings like never before,
bringing an entirely new life to songs. And the bass, whether
upright or electric, is punchy and tight as intended, vs. rambling its way
through the song in a low end, rumbling drone.  Here's just one roof many positive reviews:

This
DAC was purchased new a little over a year ago.  It’s been discontinued and is very difficult
to find for sale as folks won’t let go of them.
I’m shifting my approach a bit, upgrading with more equipment from Arcam
so I don’t need two DACs.  It works
perfectly, is cosmetically as new, with remote, box and manual.

From Arcam:

This
audiophile dock for i-devices features the lightning connector and will allow
the music lover to listen at a quality level that no other dock can achieve.
The rDock-uni will also allow the user to connect their existing 30-pin device
to the dock via a rear-mounted USB connector.
