| Hey there Rick.......Shane here from Red Deer! I noticed you have an Esoteric P-03 for sale as well as this DCS. Does the Esoteric Universal play DVD? Also, the obvious question, what are you replacing these units with? I currently have a Faroudja DVP4000 that is modded by Chris Johnson. I have put my modded unit up against the AR CD8 and Ayre DX5 and preferred mine to the two mentioned. Of course the AR and Ayre are probably not in the same league as your combo, but I have never heard either! I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter and maybe a hint of the direction you are moving!
Regards, Shane Hi Shane - nice to hear from you. The P-03 Universal plays DVD Audio and DVD Video. Video section has Anchor Bay chipset and plays back at 1080p via HDMI. The picture is at least as good as Blu-Ray...maybe better. The DCS Scarlatti DAC is by far the best DAC I have heard. I had the Berkeley Alpha DAC previous - nice, but nowhere near the Scarlatti. I also purchased a remote for the Scarlatti is included. The only transport I'm told that outperforms the P-03 Universal is the P-01 - but no video.
My plan is to buy the MSB Diamond Signature DAC with the Femtosecond Clock and their Universal Transport that uses I2S to pull music out of hard drive storage. Also looking at the new DCS Vivaldi and the Esoteric D-02.
I have a flimsy offer on the DAC. Just reduced the price of the Transport on Canuck Audiomart to $5,500.00. Will sell both to you if you are ready to buy.
