This is my daily driver Eico HF-85, fully recapped with Russian PIO's, new resistors, new power supply electrolytic, ALPS volume pot. Gold RCA outs added to tape monitor output for phase-true bypass of tone circuit, or standard pre outs can be connected for full tone control use. Line stage sounds incredible, three dimensional soundstage. Phono section is amazing for a unit of this vintage, but is NOT entirely silent on my highly efficient (99db./meter) horn loaded speakers. Some very very minor hiss is apparent at approx half turn of volume pot when no record is being played. I will say however that pre has alot of gain and at that point on the volume pot when the needle drops, it's going to be quite loud and hiss will not be heard through the music. I will also say that very few tube phono stages are entirely silent, especially with speakers this efficient. I have used it to preamp a 35 watt/channel push-pull tube amp with great success and also found that it mated extremely well with a 16 watt/channel EL84 tube amp, a match made in heaven. I have also tried it preamping a 200 watt/channel solid state beast driving enormous low efficiency planar speakers and it worked fine there as well. Condition is overall very nice, with tarnish of the brass faceplate. It has never bothered me, but can easily be polished with Brasso by the new owner if desired. Stereo Mode selector, Loudness function and tape speed switch all removed from circuit to reduce noise. At my asking price I'll include 1 pair of EI Yugolslavian 12AX7's (Telefunken smooth plate copies), 1 pair JJ 12AX7's, 1 very nice Raytheon black plate 12AX7 and a Mullard 6X4 rectifier tube. I'll ship anywhere in CONUS for about $30, USPS Priority Mail, insured. This is a very nice, electronically restored vintage piece and I am going to be sad to part with it, but I just spent more than double my asking price to make a small improvement in sound quality. The Eico is an absolute Dynaco PAS killer however and I highly doubt a better full function tube pre can be had at this price. Rated 6/10 purely for repairable tarnish of brass faceplate. Photocopy of owner's manual included as well. Paypal only, I'll pay costs at my asking price. Lowballers politely ignored.
