Some people collect coins or stamps, I collect speakers. I have a straight up addiction to buying and trying beautiful speakers. I'm sure this is not too bad as addictions go, at least I'm not hurting anyone but myself. But as I look around my office, my home and the storage building that I built to house all my extra stuff I have realized that I have more than a dozen extra pairs of high-end speakers that are not being used at all. And that seems ridiculous. Maybe not comparable to the Imelda Marcos shoe collection or Jay Leno's awesome car collection, but still, excessive and unnecessary. Here is to the beginning of a good spring cleaning season. These Gems sound and function perfectly. However, they are not cosmetically perfect, they do have some flaws that we have carefully photographed below. So if you demand cosmetic perfection, please wait for another pair of speakers, as I will have others, like a cosmetically perfect pair of the new Gem2's. But of course those will be LOTS more money. The way that I see a little flaw on a speaker is every time I look at it I think about how much money that saved me. Because so many audiophiles are perfectionists, like my best friend who I got into the hobby with who cannot stand even the tiniest flaw on his gear, gear that has some little flaws sells for a huge discount. And I like discounts. Hopefully someone out there sees these things like I do and will want these speakers.

The Gems are a stunning design, and the construction of them was done to the very highest standards. The stands were a very expensive option and so most Gem buyers did not buy the stands. In the end, many regretted that and when Revel announced that the Gems would be discontinued there was a huge rush among Gem owners to buy stands. They were so in demand that I got some dented up stands and took them to an auto body shop and had them fixed up and sold them. I will consider separating the stands from the speakers in this sale if you really want. However, these speakers are really designed to go on these stands and they do sound MUCH better on the stands. I took the sand out of the stands when I packed them as they tend to get damaged in shipping if shipped with sand in there, it leaks and makes a mess of the finish. But do please fill them when you get them, go get a bag of sand for 10 bucks, you will not regret it as that really upgrades the sound. If you really need a true bookshelf speaker then I would say these speakers are not for you. Even if you turn off the rear tweeters (and I usually prefer the sound with them turned off, even when the speaker is out in the room) this speaker is not truly made to go up against a wall. The new Gem2's are PERFECT for being mounted on a wall, and the Wilson Duettes do very nicely that way too. But the Gems should have air around them so I recommend them for a room where you have the space to let them breath, and that of course also shows off their beauty as they are like little sculptures. To be honest, they look better and more artistic than most of the sculptures and art I see in people's homes, at least for my tastes. I found when I was selling a lot of them that they tended to go to Europe and to cities like New York where space is at a premium and style is important. These will sound great in a place like that, but they can also go in a room that has plenty of room for huge floor standers. You really will be surprised at how wonderful these sound.

If you give these speakers the air they want, and a decent solid state or tube amp (I have enjoyed them both ways) they really are a fantastic speaker. In fact, in some ways they sound better than the big Studio and Salon designs. I find their imaging more precise and they are less fatiguing to listen too. I always found the original Salons and Studios (which I also owned, but sold long ago as inferior to these!) to be fatiguing for music though I enjoyed their powerful ability to pressurize a room when watching Star Wars and the like. I now have Salon2's and Stuido2's, as well as Gem2's and I do not find any of them fatiguing with the new tweeters, but again they are in a different budget category than these. These little Gems will really surprise you if you take the time to position them carefully, they are wonderful speakers. I'll post some specs and part of a review below. Of course if you would rather spend more to have the latest and greatest, I am with you and I will be more than happy to sell you any of the current Ultima2 line or the other fine Revel products. I have so many of their products throughout my home and office building and I can say without any question that Kevin Voecks has become my favorite speaker designer. I go to trade shows and I listen to demos of rooms like one with the $325,000 Project8 speakers driven by a half million dollars of BA Labo electronics; or the Lamm room with Wilson Maxx2's and again something like a half million dollars of electronics and with my Revel speakers I have got awfully darn close to as good a sound with just a tiny fraction of the expense. If I were a billionaire, I might indulge in those Project8's; they combine wonderful sound with impressive looks for sure. But you are well and far into diminishing returns. I am an audiophile, don't get me wrong, I want great sound and I will spend a lot of money to get it. For my money, the revel speakers are the best intersection of performance and value. I know that respected people in the industry like reviewer Robert Harley have also said that if he is spending his own money for his speakers, he will buy Revels. I agree wholeheartedly, and so the ads for the Revels will be the easiest for me to write in my speaker clean out and that's why I am starting here.

My goal with pricing stuff like this is to try and offer a bargain compared to other dealers but to sell the speakers for a little more than a private seller would. The reason that I think I should get a little more than a private seller is that I offer more service. I support the products I sell and I will help you with them if you ever need it. I had a guy who needed some tweeters for his Revel Salons many years after he got the speakers from me, I was able to get them for him very inexpensively and deliver them to a colleague of his while she was in the States for a conference. With over 60% of our sales going overseas, we ship worldwide on a daily basis and we receive substantial discounts on freight which save you money over what you'd pay if you buy from a private individual who pays "rack rates" for freight. In many cases the shipping discount alone would offset anything extra we charge for the product. On top of that, we are experts at export and we may be able to save you taxes and fees if you are taking the speakers overseas. And we don't charge any surcharge for using PayPal or credit cards like most Audiogon sellers do. We want you to feel safe buying from us and I think that breaking PayPal's rules by charging a surcharge undermines any sense of security a buyer would have. If the seller will cheat PayPal, who's to say he won't cheat you?

Revel originally sold these speakers for $7,200 and the stands for $1,500. So $8,700 all in. The Audiogon blue book tracks the speakers but not the stands. The speakers are valued at an average of $3,780. These may have slightly worse than average cosmetics so I am going to say knock off 20% for that making the speakers worth $3,025. That's a lot to knock off for a few little flaws I know, but that is the harsh reality of a hobby with a lot of perfectionists in it. The stands I think are worth at least $750 and I could probably get more than that if I separate and sell them to someone who already has Gems and just needs stands. I think I got $1,100 for the dented stands I had fixed up, and they did not come out as nice as these are. When I originally wrote this listing I was hoping to get $3,750 for these Gems, however there is now another pair being offered on Audiogon for less than that... so to meet the possible competion I am offering you this pair for $3,200. I am charging a small premium for our superior service, not much at all and I think our no-surcharge policy and cheaper shipping rates could actually put my price below the private seller. I hope that's fair, I am obviously taking a loss on these but I enjoyed listening to them very much and I truly do not have need or room for them in any of my 4 current systems so it is just time to pass them on and I hope they get listened to a lot more and loved. If we make a mistake, if an item does not work properly, or if the item description
is inaccurate, we'll offer you a full and prompt refund or exchange
and issue return shipping labels at our expense.

Returns due to reasons other than some deficiency on our part are
subject to a 20% restocking fee. This includes sales where the buyer
"changes his mind" , where his wife beats him over the head for
spending too much money, where some unforeseen crisis, financial or otherwise,
strikes the buyer, his family, his friends/business/job/pets/favorite sports team/etc.
or any other reason that the buyer may seek to cancel the sale or return
the item for some reason other than a mistake or discrepancy on High End Zone's
part. And this includes cases where the buyer changes his mind and wants
to cancel the sale before he even receives the item, possibly before we

one of our items we are redeploying our capital to get other items for

you don't want it anymore, chances are we've already spent the money to restock.
So the restocking fee absolutely applies in all cases of buyers changing their minds,
wanting to cancel a sale after it is agreed or return an item for any reason
other than High End Zone providing a flawed or incorrect item.

We can sometimes make an exception if you change your mind in order to buy
something else that we can sell you, generally a higher model. For example,
If you make a deal to buy a JL f113 from us and then you decide that what you
REALLY want is a Gotham g213, then we can probably work it out to make that
switch for you without a restocking fee. That said, please don't buy if you're
not sure that you want the item you are buying. If you need to check with your
wife, your broker, your business partner, your kids, or the Supreme Court
before you buy, please do that. High End Zone cannot be held responsible for
any case of wives beating their husbands for spending too much money on good gear.

Please check your purchases promptly upon arrival. A client
purchased speakers from us and didn't open them for 6 months, then found that
some parts were missing. We are doing our best to get those parts for him
at no charge from the manufacturer but it would have been a LOT easier if
he'd examined them upon receipt. In general, our policy is that any flaw,
damage, missing item, incorrect item, etc. must be reported to
High End Zone by email no later than 3 days (72 hours) after that
item is delivered. If you are not able to check the item yourself in
that time frame, please make the necessary arrangements to have someone else
make such a check for you in your absence.
