This rare pair of early Altec Lansing A7-500W speakers in fantastic condition. Local sale is best!!! (Cleveland, Ohio)I am the original owner and these A7 VOTT speakers since the mid 60's. This is the walnut veneer, furniture grade version of the A7-500 Voice of the Theatre. I have been a highly functional musician my whole live appearing on over 500 recordings and after 40 years of listen to what everybody says is enjoyable sound...... well these A7's win in their price range. For that matter you would have to spend 4 to 5 times as much to get close. The FEEL of the sound is fantastic. People talk about all the amazing new inventions in sound, but the size and the quality of the speaker produce a feeling that is rare. This pair came out of the Altec factory in the 1964. They are loaded with all original components: 803B woofers, 802D 16 ohm compression drivers, 511B horns and N-500-D dividing network crossovers. Altec changed the name of their 803B woofer to 416A sometime in 1964, so this pair dates prior to that name change. As most vintage Altec fans already know, this is exactly the same 16 ohm woofer as the 416A; they changed the name because Altec also had an 803 horn (8 cells, 300Hz) and it was confusing to have two different components with the same number.
We've had a number of requests for shipping expenses to various locations. While we cannot provide an individual quote to each request, we can give you the following guidelines.
Domestic Shipping in the continental US: From shipper's loading dock in Cleveland Ohio to a commercial location (loading dock) on the West coast will cost approximately $850. This includes packing, shipping, and insurance. To go to the middle of the country is approximately $675, and the Western states is approximately $475. If the delivery is to a residential location the cost is $75 more to transfer the load to a smaller truck equipped with lift-gate.
Each complete speaker weighs 135 pounds, and its dimensions are 42" high, 30" wide, and 24" deep.
