Focal Sopra N2

This pair of speakers is in near-perfect shape. 9/10 basically because they’ve been opened and used lightly in my tiny listening area for 3 months. I’m selling my whole system because I’m downsizing and need the money for other things. I’ve enjoyed these speakers immensely in the time I’ve used them.

The Sopra no. 2 falls in the middle of the Sopra line. In my opinion, there are so many things the No. 2 does well that I felt them the best value in not only the line, but of any speaker anywhere near the price. They’re extremely well built, exotic and space little expense. They use Focal’s W-cone woofers and midrange with their highly-regarded beryllium tweeter.

Sonically, the Sopra No. 2 isn’t cut from the exact same cloth as other Focal speakers. Rather than being hyper analytical, these speakers have a slightly laid-back presentation. They’re detailed but with a more “gentle” overall character that lends its self to enjoyable listening while playing most music and formats. At no time did they ever punish me, even with compressed music. They sound great at low levels but due to their smooth, strain-free sound, they play loud very nicely. Bass is fast and articulate and compared to the Sopra No.3, I believe these are an easier match when it comes to rooms and placement. They’re also very efficient and not particularly difficult to pair to upstream electronics. That said, they do reward for high-quality gear upstream as any speaker of this level of performance should. I used them with a Cary SLP-05 preamp and Pass XA 30.5 amplifier. This system is very warm and inviting and ultra-smooth top end and absolutely no glare or strain what so ever. Lots of that beautiful tube, class A sound but without any loss of bass weight or articulation.
