First: Sorry for the pricing info above. Audiogon site has a glitch and would not let me enter price. The price on these Whispers is $13,500. The Original Price was $25,500. and now..... The Legacy Audio Whispers are simply one of the best speakers available at any price today. From Speaker of the Year in 2010 to Best of Show at CES in 2013, and many more data points, they are highly acclaimed and highly awarded. The Whispers pour out a crisp relaxing engrossing musical sound stage at what ever sound level you desire, from intimate to being there live in the 4th row. Even though each speaker has 10 drivers and twin 500 watt amplifiers, the term "ear fatigue" will become a foreign concept to you in short order. Close your eyes for a few seconds, and you will swear the artist is standing and breathing right in front of you. These come with the Xilica Processor; An external crossover with room correction control eliminating room interaction. The quality of workmanship and cabinet finish at Legacy has few peers, and the Rosewood finish is simply a work of art. Yes I'm a long time Legacy Audio fan. I'll still own the Focus, Marquis and Phantoms after these. I am the original owner of these Whispers for 3 1/2 years and would not sell them except for new room size constraints. Some review highlights:
- "Tell you what; I'd put the Whisper XD's up against any Wilson or Focal, I've heard them all. I'll take the Whispers."
- "By far the best sound at the Axpona show was the combination of the Ayon Triton driving the Legacy Whispers. An opinion shared by almost everyone."
- "The Whisper DSW is a music lover's dream, its sound quality is an audiophile's dream, and its flexibility is a tweaks dream."
At their new price of a little more than $25,000 the Whispers have been compared to speakers approaching $100,000. At $13,500 for a 3 1/2 year old pair, they are value priced and an exceptional value. I've inspected them front and back and could only find a single minute nick, which I've attempted to show in the pictures. It was not visible to me until I inspected the speakers close up. I do not have original crating, so these are for local pick up only, or I would be willing to drive half way, up to four hours, to exchange. They are also available for audition in the NW Suburbs of Chicago to anyone interested. If you've ever considered this type of investment for a speaker, or wondered about this brand, my only feedback/opinion is that you'll be thrilled with these, or anything from Legacy. Thanks for looking.
