The Talis TLS 10 is the largest floorstanding model of the family, and it is convincing proof of the relative nature of size. The cabinet is slightly less than 15 cm wide, 17 cm deep and 120 cm tall, yet it delivers a really big sound image. The speaker is fitted with four newly developed, highly refined bass / mid-range drive units with extremely long coils, rigid aluminium cones and powerful magnets. The cone area of all four drive units is relatively large, enabling the speaker to generate a very deep bass as well as processing extremely high levels cleanly and with total precision.
Two of these advanced chassis are wired as bass drivers, while the two upper ones utilise the D’Apolito arrangement, and are responsible for the entire bass / mid-range area. This configuration reduces the listening room’s influence on the speaker’s reproduction characteristics and ability to orientate the mid-range accurately. The loudspeaker’s high-frequency unit is the super annular tweeter, which has impressed so many experts in the Criterion series, and this unit makes an important contribution to the dynamic and lively character of this exceptional speaker. The aluminium cabinet is extremely hard and rigid, but does not suffer from carcase sound or metallic ring thanks to extensive damping, and its narrow baffle produces ideal radiation characteristics and brilliant spatial imaging. The effective internal volume of aluminium cabinets is by their very nature much larger than that of comparable wooden cabinets. For this reason the TLS 10 also delivers significantly better, more powerful bass than equivalent timber cabinets. The sophisticated crossover unit is constructed using extremely low-loss components, and makes an important contribution to the loudspeaker’s excellent efficiency and good transient behaviour. A special low bass equalisation circuit noticeably extends the bottom limit frequency and the speaker’s maximum load capacity. The TLS 10 is extremely elegant and does not look large, despite the fact that it sounds better than most full-size floor-standing loudspeakers. Upon request the TLS 10 can also be supplied in active form; this version is known as the TLS 10A, and features an integral three-channel power amplifier with an output of 3 x 60 Watts and an active crossover unit. In this form it is the ideal complement for a relatively low-power receiver or amplifier in a large room, or for a source device with a regulated output. Specifications:
