This is a very nice, nearly perfect GAS preamp that I purchased new from Sound Associates in Bowling Green OH in the mid 1970's. This was GAS's lower-priced version of their highly-aclaimed Thaedra preamp which was one of the best in the world at that time. The Thoebe was designed by John Bongornio, who also engineered some very fine equipment at SAE when they were still a great company.
This preamp was sent to Gasworks in 1987 and had a circuit installed which prevented the direct-coupled circuitry from passing spikes and surges on to the power amp.
I just ran the Thoebe for about 50 hours through a secondary system and was amazed at how good it still sounds. One of the female outputs to the power amp seems a bit loose on the chassis but everything still works well. This is a rack mountable faceplate and there are no feet on it but they can be purchased at any electronics store. A seven is mostly for age but I don't want anyone to be disappointed with this great little classic piece.
