"In a career tragically cut short in mid-stride by a brain tumor, George Gershwin (1898-1937) proved himself to be not only one of the great songwriters of his extremely rich era, but also a gifted "serious" composer who bridged the worlds of classical and popular music. The latter is all the more striking, given that, of his contemporaries, Gershwin was the most influenced by such styles as jazz and blues." - AMG.
"If you can ignore the tape hiss these Mercury Living Presence recordings of Antal Dorati leading the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra would be among the finest ever made. Along with the tape hiss, Mercury's engineering captured every nuance of the performances with a clarity and lucidity that few later recordings could match." - AMG.

Fresh, crisp and clear. Lots of detail and clarity. Instruments have "air" and presence around them and sound very realistic. The soundstage is both wide and deep with very strong imaging. Bass is deep and tight, mids are"sweet" and high's are shimmering. Strong dynamics. A great sounding LP.
Surface noise is mostly "crackles" which appear on quiet passages.
