Great Plains Audio (Altec) 604-8HII Gorgeous custom cabinets

Custom 9 cu-ft cabinets in maple. These were structurally designed to be able to be placed in a corner, but can be placed free standing in a room. I chose this driver after hearing them in Altec Valencias, but chose to build a larger 9 cu-ft cabinet like the Stonehenge. The cabinets are built with 3/4" cabinet grade maple + 3/4' MDF on the front three baffles and 3/4" cabinet grade maple on all other sides. They are heavily braced and inrerior is coated with Hy-Tech damping as well as 3" fiberglass. The cabinets are basically inert. There are no cabinet vibrations to color the sound. The crossover is built by Great Plains Audio and mounted so that it is isolated from any potential cabinet vibration.

These are incredible good sounding speakers and live up to the Altec 604's reputation. The photos do not do justice to the finish. The walnut trim pieces are seamless where they attach to the cabinet. The finish is is lacquer. I was going to put grill cloth on the front baffle, but they looked so good without it I chose not to They are in excellent condition with only a few small nicks and barely visible scuffs.

These have never been abused and were powered by a Leben 300. I am selling only because I have no time to listen to my stereo anymore. This is the last remaining component.
