Hawthorne Audio/Open-Baffle Speakers Custom-Made a gem of craftmanship

Up for a sale are a unique set of custom made open baffle speakers using drivers by Hawthorne Audio. The woodwork is by Mike Kelly a true artisanal craftsman based in the Pacific Northwest. These speakers create a truly enveloping soundstage as opposed to the traditional point source (google hawthorne audio or open baffle speakers).

Each speaker uses one 15" audiophile grade Silver Iris coaxial unit and one 15" Augie bass-sub driver by Hawthorne Audio (designed specifically for open baffle use). The coaxial drivers are about 96 db efficient making them perfect for use with SET or low-power tube amps (I’ve enjoyed them with 300b SET as well as a current solid-state configuration). The crossovers are built from premium parts, i.e. Obbligato caps, Alpha Core inductors, and Dale and Kiwame resistors. They're wired with Tara Labs cable.

The Augies (subs) are powered by a set of custom solid-state plate amps that provide ample power and can drive as low as ~27 Hz. The plate amps also include settings for crossover, phase and loudness settings.

The baffles are constructed from 1 1/4" thick solid European Beech and are built up on the edges for a total thickness of 2 1/2". The drivers are mounted on Baltic birch plywood and bolted to the baffles with dense foam in between to decouple the drivers from the baffle. The bases are 1 1/2" thick solid ash stained in black. Dimensions are 21" W x 42" H x 12" D and weight is approximately 60 pounds each (individual crates add another 40+ pounds each).

I’ve had these for two years but space and financial demands force the sale (which includes speakers and plate amps). Condition is listed as an 8 - as they are in great condition with the exception of a small ding on the side of one speaker.
