HOROWITZ - - "Horowitz On Television" - Columbia Masterworks 1968 Sealed

"This was Horowitz's first televised concert, live from Carnegie Hall on September 22, 1968. It was shown on CBS (Horowitz had an exclusive contract with the CBS Masterworks record label). The pianist was 64 at the time.

Selections include three by Chopin (Ballade op. 23, Nocturne op. 55 no. 1, Polonaise op.44), two sonatas by Scarlatti (K380 and K55), two by Schumann (Arabesque and Traumerei), Scriabin's well known D sharp minor Etude, and Horowitz's own Variations on a theme from "Carmen". Of course, the performance is exceptional, and Horowitz is at the height of his powers (a height that he kept right up until his death in 1989).
