From the Structura series of the French manufacturer, the Alpha model is now at the start of a very promising and prestigious range; this does not make it a discount cable, because it's very successful design allows it to be placed at the top of the podium of current modulation cables at competitive prices.

The Alpha is a cable made up of 720 strands (multi-strand) of pure oxygen-free copper with long crystals, mounted according to a symmetrical diagram in the form of strands very precisely assembled. Shielding, insulators, gainses ont été minutieusement choisis pour garantir une immunité irréprochable vis à vis des perturbations externes (autres câbles, environnement, etc..), et l’accent a été mis sur les phénomènes de diélectrique. Cet assemblage complexe et mûri à l’extrême permet aussi à l’auditeur de bénéficier d’une image très stable de la scène sonore. Les connecteurs RCA d’origine WBT ont laissé la place à de nouvelles fiches RCA tout aussi performantes utilisant un placage argent très efficace sur le plan du contact.

This cable was used with a Line 3 Classic Delta YBA, a YBA CD 3 Classic Sigma player, and an old Nakamichi OMS 1 CD player, and was also used to connect the YBA 3 preamplifier to a REGA Ear headphone amplifier. Finally, the listening comparison was carried out with the YBA Glass cable as a reference. Naim test CD, Tri Yann & Onpl 2, Mozart Requiem by Karajan …….

Musically, the Alpha is distinguished by a strong and evident presence of the musicians in the listening room. The excellent clipping of the instruments and the voices allows a certain valorization of these. The percussions appear with the addition of body and materialization, which confirms a “full” and realistic side.

Another big surprise: the Alpha has propensities to release the sound message, and the subjective bandwidth appears to be a little more extended in comparison with the YBA Glass, especially at the bottom of the spectrum. On the low mid / low range, the music takes on a slightly colored hue which results in a small blister, which is not unpleasant.

This cable never shows aggressiveness, thanks to a slightly dull side (in the first sense of the term), it shows a very good respect for timbres , and can go very high when the music requires it. We are surprised to rediscover the crystalline and generous side which characterize the YBA products of the Classic series, and it gives a youthful form to an old Nakamichi CD player. This cable does not add to or take anything back from the signals it is intended to convey: in fact, I call it generous and lively. Obviously it can be associated with a large number of products without fear of obtaining a disappointing or random musical result. It is advisable to respect the direction of the connection.
