James Burgess 45/2A3 SET Mono-block Amplifiers

This is a pair of excellent James Burgess SET mono-block amplifiers that use either 45 or 2A3 output tubes. Changing between the two is as easy as swapping tubes and flipping a switch. The amp design is base on the “Bugle” design by Gordon Rankin of Wavelength Audio fame. The tube complement is two half wave 6W4GT rectifiers, a 417A/5842 driver and either a 45 or 2A3 output tube. The amps are self biasing, have hum pots and each has a volume control, so you can run a CD player directly without the need for a preamp. The amps use carefully selected vintage power transformer and James output transformer. Unlike some other amps that use a compromise primary impedance on the output transformer to allow for the use of two different output tubes, these amps are designed to switch between the correct two impedances for each tube. These amps were built in October, 2006. Power cords not included. These amps are very quiet. I have been using them with 99 dB Sachiko speakers with FE203EN-S drivers with no noticeable hum except when your ear it to the driver.

This is about $400+ worth of tubes. Note – I believe that the WE 417A and Amperex 5842 are the two best drivers for these amps. Other 45 and 2A3’s also available.

Amps will be boxed separate from the tubes. Amps package weights approximately 50 lbs. The tube package weights approximately 12 lbs. I can give you a good estimate of the shipping costs once everything is boxed up and weighed.
