Dizzy Gillespie+Lalo Schifrin+more An Electrifying Evening W/The Dizzy Gillespie Quin tet Verve Stereo V6-8401 First Pressing STEREO "banner" labels from 1961. Recorded at the Museum Of Modern Art.Top copy Professional ratings/Review scores Down Beat 4.5/5 stars,.....Allmusic 5/5 stars ,The Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide 5/5 stars. Not to be missed. Dizzy Gillespie (along with altoist Leo Wright, pianist Lalo Schfrin, bassist Bob Cunningham, and drummer Chuck Lampkin) were in peak form for this live performance. Their versions of "Kush," "Salt Peanuts," and "The Mooche" are all excellent, but it is "A Night in Tunisia," with its absolutely stunning trumpet break (which lasts half a chorus), that is most memorable. Sheer perfection in its idiom. Diz at top form, with stellar contributions from sidemen who never became household names in the world of jazz: young Argentinian pianist Lalo Schiffrin (well before Hollywood fame), altoist Leo Wright, with a powerful distinctive sound on his horn, the equally powerful Bob Cunningham on bass and the more than serviceable Chuck Lampkin on drums. A spirited fun performance from beginning to end.
