"Though he is a talented guitarist, Ron Cooley's first solo album is more impressive for his compositional and arranging skills than for fast licks and string-bending pyrotechnics. The sound here is of a well-rehearsed ensemble playing mellow jazz, and often as not the guitar is not the outstanding instrument. For example, the main theme in "Turtle Doves" is tossed between the oboe and keyboards, with Cooley's guitar providing tasty fills and accents throughout the piece. The highly layered mix and effective string arrangements bear the stamp of producer and performer Chip Davis, who makes effective but subtle use of a substantial string and horn section. This relatively low-key approach works well and makes for a very pleasant album, if not for the best showcase of the talents of the fellow whose name happens to be on the cover." - AMG.
