Price reduced... entertaining near offers. I am also amenable to auditions and/or a phone conversation to discuss these special speakers. I am a top rated, 12 year seller on ebay specializing in vintage audio.
Matched pair of JBL C48 Madison Speakers with Whizzer cones- Newly and PROFESSIONALLY installed surrounds and dust caps by Circuitshop Speakers in Michigan (they are very familiar with JBL work).. (I have pictures of speakers before if you want to see, the original lansalloy were starting to crack). No rub of voice coil, perfectly centered-these are ready to go for a long time and will continue to open up with time. .
Speakers have approx 100 hrs since being refurbished in December. Bass is now tighter, deeper and more refined. Imaging and highs also showed improvement. The BEST midrange of ANY speaker I have ever heard. These will reveal any weakness in your other components. These are special speakers circa 1954 with no JBL emblem on back. 16 Ohm original Whizzer cones have serial number around 3700 and 4000. I have owned them 5 years, and they were purchased together, I think they have always been together.
FYI, this cabinet was also used for a 2 way design with additional tweeter and crossover if you ever want to change them up. A rare option in this sized cabinet.
Appears original owner used these in the upright position judging by the wear on the bottom of the speaker when stood on end. There are hooks on back to mount laterally, if you so desire.. Everything is original except for the new surrounds and dust caps. Likely a very early production of these speakers. Original whizzer cone speaker, JBL's original and best design of this heralded speaker. The tone is perfect to my ears.
Cabinets- show signs of being 60+ years old. Wood till has great grain and shine (I only put a light coat of Watco rejuvenating on them), they appear to be a deep teak or mahogany (I think), but there are some marks, and light lines along top and sides. Grills are original and intact save for the areas around the original badges, where there is a bit of tattering. They are gold toned vintage fabric and the grill frames are good.
Speakers- 16 Ohm with original whizzer cone, closely matched Ohms, early version of the LE8.
Pics taken outside in natural light so you can judge condition. .
Condition is subjective, so I took lots of pics and may add more if there is interest. For vintage, these are in VGC, but not perfect, although I doubt you will find a nicer matched whizzer set, that has been together since new.
These are genuine early Madison speakers with matching cabinets. They are efficient and magic with tubes. Sounds like the singer is in the room, singing between the speakers. Wow.
Overall, these are very clean, no sun damage or fading I could see. I took pics without and with flash so you can judge condition.
Flat rate of $89.00 shipping to lower 48 via fedex ground, insured and signature will be required (I will lose money on shipping regardless of destination due to size and weight of box). I will gladly have fedex pack this as well, just ask and I will revise the invoice ($15.00 charge).
I will ship overseas to select buyers from select countries with track record of buying hi-end audio gear. I will require full insurance and full value for customs, no exceptions. Shipping for Europe and Asia is estimated at $190, and may require adjustment. I will refund any excess.
Local pick-up is free if you show up when you say you will.
I may consider a reduction in price for local pick up or non-paypal payment.
I am a top rated seller on ebay audio-investment and am in Indianapolis. I will talk to you if you have any questions.
