This is a fine sounding unit. It is warmly balanced but still has very good detail retrieval. The bass is deep and tight. I don't know the 4Ohm power rating, but I'd have to say that is has to easily put out 200wpc into 4Ohms. It easily drove a set of Magneplanar 1.7 to loud levels in my large listening area (500 square feet) and controlled the bass nicely. This unit easily outperformed a Plinius 8200 II in my listening experience.
I found this literature on-line and the VAMP Integrated delivers 150WPC into 8 Ohms. Now I see why it can drive difficult speakers so easily. http://www.sigsound.com/PDFs/JouleLit4.pdf
This model was introduced in 2000 and sold for $3850.
I bought this unit off of Audiogon and I know nothing of its history. The boards/components all look fine to me (no rounded tops of the filter caps eg).
I never rolled the tubes in this unit. It comes with a Sylvania 6350 and also comes with a pair of 12AU7 that have most of the markings rubbed off so I can't identify them. I don't know how much life they have left, but they sounded good to me.
This unit comes with a remote but the amp does not respond for whatever reason. So even though there are 4 inputs, you are only able to use input set 1. I never called Joule or called their out of warranty service center to explore the cost of repair as I have been using my remote controlled pre/dac for volume.
This is not a unit to display like a piece of audio jewelry. While there are no egregiously bad cosmetic defects, there are multiple marks and light scratches on the top of the unit. The face only has a few very minor hairline marks, but has other splotchiness and the previous owner reglued some of the gold lettering and you can tell up close. But, from several feet away, none of this is obvious. I am a tough grader on cosmetics and so I give this a 5/10.
I have taken pictures, but I won't be able to download them until this evening.
I don't have the box/packaging, but I will pack it well and double box it for safe transport.
