For sale is an Audion Sterling integrated valve/tube amplifier. The Audion Sterling EL34 uses a single EL34 per channel in single ended topology, producing 12 watts per channel. Like all good single ended amplifiers these have remarkable speed and openness, and an ability to drive speakers that belies their low rated power output. This amplifier features 5 line level inputs.
This is the mk1 which uses a PCB, not the hard wired model. Both models are exceptional at their respective price points, with speed, dynamics and musicality in spades. You really do need to hear what they can do to your system! This is an ex-demo unit and there are no dents, no scratches, it is still new!

Sterling Stereo Mk1 EL34 Integrated PCB
Audion Sterling stereo integrated is built on a quality substrate pcb (printed circuit board) as with all our amps they are hand built. This pentode based EL34 stereo amp uses a small amount of feedback in the design. The chassis is black powder coated aluminium as is the transformer cover. The top plate and badge are mirror finished stainless steel.
The Sterling is a very under rated power amplifier, being musical straight out of the box. The Mk1 version is set at a low price to get people into the door, it's aimed at people who want to try a tube amplifier but who are on a tight budget. Sound wise however it ticks all the right boxes, sounding much better than its price suggests.
Amplifier matching
This Sterling is suited for use with loudspeakers of 89db or better efficiency. Ideally matched with our range of Proton cables. The amp delivers 12 watts into 8 ohms. Our integrated model comes with 5 line level inputs and a straight thru tape output switched from the front panel.
Quality both inside and out!
Having a volume control on the front and 5 stereo inputs on the rear means that a pre-amplifier is not necessary with this unit, unless a phono stage is needed. These amps are all auto biased. They come with Electro Harmonix EL34 tubes.
The Sterling is a good entry level printed circuit board Class A power amplifier at a very keen price point.
Hand built Quality
The integrated Sterling is built with components sourced from Europe and the US. Where possible we avoid the use of any Chinese component. Our output transformers are wound in-house to our exacting standards and many of the components are either made by us or specifically for us. We use Electro Harmonix EL34 and Russian New old stock 6H1N as a driver and NOS Jan Philips 5687 tubes.

| Why so much? One of these sold on E-Bay 10 days ago for a bit over $600, and shipping from out of the country was $70. I bought one 15 years ago for $700 used. Hi, I bought this amp new and used it for a few weeks, so it really is an ex-demo. You cannot [filtered] it 'used'. The Sterling range has changed a lot during those 15 years. I bought my first Audion when the company just started and they have changed a lot. So you see my asking price might be a bit high, but I'm always open to serious offers. Hope this info was useful. |
