The FS-880 dipole speaker system is one of the first full-range freestanding speaker designs in the BG Radia family of products. With the FS-880 we have taken the award winning Radia LA-Series in-wall designs and crafted them into an incredibly dynamic floorstanding system; a system that both compliments our current line-up, and is a prime example of what can be expected of our speaker systems. This magnificent hybrid design is comprised of an array of 16 Neo3-PDR planar ribbon tweeters in a dipole configuration (an open back tower that helps to reveal the life-like detail and deep realistic breadth of the sound stage), an array of 6 dipole Neo10 planar ribbon midrange drivers (again, open backed for a fuller, more spatial sound), and 4 hi-output sealed 8” double-gap paper-composite woofers which are actively driven by 2,000 watts of class-D amplification. One of the distinct features of the FS-880 is that its midrange line array section operates without the encumbrance of a high pass filter, which allows for the superior reproduction of a greater vocal range. The Neo10 drivers are connected in series for a total of 40 ohm resistive load capacity. With this capacity, the array delivers an amazing 93 dB/2.83V. This allows for very high SPL peaks without overloading the amplifier’s power supply. In other words; the FS-880 allows any amplifier to work at its best theoretical capability and maximum dynamic range without overload and distortion. The absence of capacitors in the signal path of Neo10 array provides direct drive of the midrange section with the utmost transparency and resolution. In combining all of the elements of the open backed array, the neo3 tweeters, the robust nature of an unharnessed array of neo10 midrange drivers, plus the piston action of the actively driven 8” double-gap woofers, the FS-880 reveals a speaker system that is unmatched in performance. And, when combined with our traditional Radia Series woofer enclosure, heavy steel base and metal cone feet, this monumental arrangement stands as a breathtaking beautiful 83in (2.11m) tower.
