Reviews:

  1. Stereo Times"I spent months with these CDs and really got to know the sound of this instrument. As well, I've turned to this set numerous times in reviewing cords and cables and components and tweaks. Nevertheless, last night when I played the first movement of the Waldstein, both of us were rendered speechless for awhile. The sound of the piano was wonderful, and was at the same time familiar and unfamiliar.... There was more dynamic nuance and tonal subtlety, more ambient detail, and much more image precision; even the voicing sounded different, as if the ratios of the overtones of the vibrating strings was altered...Spatial clues were more plentiful, creating a more palpable and stable image. Tonal quality was radiant. This was singularly pure music, sound that enraptures all of one's sensual attention. A audiophile lives for moments like this."

  2. Tweek Geek Speek"I have heard tweaks that produce a holographic effect at the expense of losing image focus, this is not one of those tweaks. It creates a huge sense of width, depth and holography without the loss of image focus."

Customer Testimonials

NIRVANA!

Wow! After installing the Active version of Bybee's Room Neutralizer, I am truly impressed. I already had some "regular", non-powered versions of this and they were very good, but the "Active" ones are remarkable. Main takeaway: Everything got better. Everything I play is SIGNIFICANTLY CLEARER! There is better resolution - more micro-detail, but not artificially bright. I keep coming back to the word NATURAL. Also new is a fuller, richer sound. The bass has more authority. The percussion instruments are more percussive. The soundstage is fuller - no gaps! I didn't know I had gaps until I heard what this thing does. Another benefit is a smoother frequency response, fewer peaks and valleys. The music is so much more DYNAMIC. It seems to be "alive." Bottom line is: the music now is much more involving. It just pulls you in. It's harder to listen critically because I'm so enthralled with this new sound that I forget to be critical - quite a feat! Proof of what I believe - I'm buying more of these babies.

Experience the Bybee Active Room Neutralizer and experience the size, detail, beauty, and drama of your recordings, unlimited by your room.  You will be pleasantly stunned.  We guarantee it!

Universal voltage: The Active Room Neutralizers will work on any voltage. They are however only made with a 2-prong US plug. With an adapter they can be made to work with Schuko and other AC receptacles.

What They Are

The Active Room Neutralizers are 2” wide by 6” long, with a 10' power lead that terminates to a power plug. They hang on your walls and can be hidden from sight by going behind artwork. They help your walls accomplish a disappearing act by use of a proprietary blend of materials that when activated resonate with the air molecules in the room, enabling the transmission of sound without the usual time misalignment of frequencies. They work well with other room treatments such as the Steinmusic HarmonizersShakti Hallographs and Stillpoints Apertures.

The Listening Room: The most important component of your audio system, and the hardest to tame.

The listening room is the most stubbornly defiant antagonist to the sonic illusion a two channel audio system will ever encounter.  The reason for this is that the recording is trying to place the listener in one acoustic environment while the listening room is reinforcing a different environment.

While a host of “room treatment” products have been developed, some large and awkward, most are expensive and only moderately effective.  The proof is easy to demonstrate.  Simply stand between your speakers, or very nearly between them and slightly in front, while the system is operating.  You will almost assuredly hear a vast improvement in the detail of the original environment in which the music was recorded.  This effect is similar to what is experienced by using headphones.  The reason this occurs is that the room reflections do not interfere with your listening when you are listening in the "near field". When listening in the near field the room is essentially taken out of the equation.

Enter the Bybee Active Room Neutralizers

The Bybee Active Room Neutralizers offer a unique way of effectively removing the acoustic impediments of the listening room and presenting to the listener all of the sonic details and timing of the original recorded environment intact.

With this benefit the direct energy from the speakers is time aligned and has a commanding dominance over wall reflections. The room sonically disappears and it is as though the listener put on headphones, accept that the excitement and spatial correctness of a loudspeaker presentation is completely in tact.

A Bybee Active Room Neutralizer measures 2” x 6”, with a 10' attached power cord.  The neutralizers are essentially two dimensional and can be placed behind pictures and other wall ornaments if desired.

Installation

1. Experimentation is key with placement, but we offer a few general guidelines based on our experience. In general, placing them on the walls about 5' off of the ground is where you want the height.

  • If you have only one Active Room Neutralizer, try it centered behind the loudspeakers for more image depth, or behind the listening position to move the soundstage outward into the room.

  • If you have two, your options open up considerably.

    • One in front and one behind the listening position centered between the speakers on the walls will create incredible depth and a holographic, wrap around soundstage.

    • If you like a very wide soundstage, try one on each side wall. Experimentation with placement in front of or behind the plane created by  loudspeaker's front baffle will be key.

  • For three, two on the side walls and one either behind the speakers or the listening seat, centered on the wall.

  • For four, the side walls, and centered on the wall in front and behind the listener should be optimal.

2. Ceiling placement is good if the wall behind the listening position extends more than 12' behind your seat.

3. Blu Tac installation can be used to secure the Active Room Neutralizers to the walls/ceiling

4. You can use an extension cord to achieve better placement.

Break in

  • The effect the neutralizers have on the listening environment is fairly immediate, though the full effect will develop and become more uniform over about three days. Patience will be rewarded greatly.

  • Once the room is "charged" by the ARN's, you can briefly unplug and plug them back in for the purposes of moving them around the room. They room will not lose it's charge if the ARN's are plugged back in within 5 minutes or so. If you wish to completely discharge the room, unplugging the ARN's and taking them out of the room should discharge the room in an hour or so.

Getting Used To Listening With No Boundaries

Please allow sufficient time to get used to the effect of the neutralizers.  You will not be used to listening will likely be a bit jarred at first.  As listening continues it will become increasingly apparent that a new level of spatial size and depth, resolution, musical excitement and intimacy is occurring.

The old two channel stereo plane of sound gives way to an expansive, holographic surround effect that transports the listener completely to the space of the original recording.  Sonic purity and beauty will become striking as all the wall reflection grunge remarkably disappears.  This gives rise to a new appreciation for the music as well as the audio system that no longer has to fight room acoustics to make its musical statement.

FAQ

Q: My country has a different voltage AC, are the Active Room Neutralizers compatible?

A: Yes, the Active Room Neutralizers will work on 110v-240v. The only factor is the US 2-prong plug, which can be overcome by using an adapter to plug in to a non-US type AC receptacle.

Q: Will it make a difference if I plug the ARN into an unfiltered AC receptacle vs. in to my power conditioner?

A: Yes. It appears that unfiltered AC, with it's noise and harmonics, produces a different sonic signature than filtered AC. Even dedicated line AC that is unfiltered vs. Unfiltered, un-dedicated line AC produces different effects. The key is experimentation with different circuits in your listening room will produce different results.

Q: How long do these need to break in?

A: You will hear something immediately, but the ARN's will need 3-4 days of continuous power before they "charge" the room. Once the room is charged, you can move them around the room by unplugging them briefly (like 5 minutes) and moving them to another receptacle. They will need an hour or two to adjust after a small move like that.

Q: How long does it take, after unplugging the ARN's, for the room to return to normal?

A: We have found that the room will lose it's charge after about an hour. This makes comparisons slightly more difficult, but honestly the effect is so noticeable that the passage of time should not interfere with your observations.

Q: Are the ARN's available for in-home auditions?

A: Yes. If you live in the US, you can audition up to 3 ARN's. If you feel you need more time than the 7 day audition period, you can always purchase a set under the protection of our 30-day money back guarantee.

Q: What is the difference between the Active Room Neutralizer and the passive Room Neutralizer?

A: Aside from the obvious, the Active Room Neutralizer has over twice the amount of material. The power cord, along with making the Active Room Neutralizer active, also doubles as an antenna that is 10 feet long. This in comparison to the 6-8" long passive antenna on the standard Room Neutralizer. The Active version is about 10 times more powerful as a result.

Q: What is the difference between the Active Room Neutralizer and the Bybee Quantum Plug?

A: An excellent question. But let's look at the similarities first.

  • Similarities between the ARN & QP

    • Similar active materials

    • Both are "active"

  • Differences between the ARN & QP

    • The ARN uses significantly more active material

    • The ARN separates the Active material between AC legs. Meaning, the hot AC leg has it's own material which is isolated from the material used on the neutral AC leg

    • The ARN has a 10' long cord for placement higher up on walls. In addition the plug of the ARN is also filled with active material, further enhancing the ARN.

Similar Bybee Products

The Active Room Neutralizers are part of a family of products that include:

The Bybee Room Neutralizers ($250 each): A passive version of the Neutralizer technology. While not nearly as powerful, the passive Room Neutralizer can help with expanding the soundstage, and evening out the effects of the Active Room Neutralizers.

The Bybee Quantum Plug ($199 each): A much smaller, and different implementation of Neutralizer technology. Also used to even out the effect of the Active Room Neutralizers. They have a cooler sonic signature than the Active Room Neutralizer.

One can use all of these products to fine tune the effects of the ARN in their listening environment.
