Several years back, we acquired some large slabs of Kewazinga Waterfall figure Bubinga, and have finally milled some of it and built a fine Garrard 301 with the results!   This amazing wood  from the wet tropics of West Africa is highly chatoyant, gorgeous, and is very sought after.

Due to recent changes in International CITES regulations effective Jan 2nd of this year,  we cannot ship this deck, or anything made with Bubinga, outside the United States.

This listing is for the complete deck, minus tonearms and cartridges.   Included are, the completely rebuilt and absolutely stunning Garrard 301, the Bubinga plinth with 2 tonearm boards,  the Puresound 'Tenuto' Mat, and 4 Track Audio footers.  The deck shown in the photos is sold, but we have lots of this special wood, and can create another one.  Additional armboards are available on request, please contact us for details.

The photo of the Cocobolo Garrard is shown for reference only, to give an idea of the scale of this model, mounted with tonearms.  It is the exact same model, shown only as an example.

Hi resolution, color accurate photos can be found on the Woodsong Audio 'flickr' photo hosting site, which can easily be found with a google search of  'woodsong flickr'.

This deck is the Woodsong  'Dual Tonearm Compact', model, featuring articulating armboards.  While we also build a 'Classic' model, featuring a plinth mounted armboard, each of these distinct designs have inherant benefits.  We like the articulating armboards for ease of extremely precise tonearm setup, ease of swapping tonearms,  and especially for clean tonearm cable runs.  With artulating armboards, it is possible to have phono cable runs where the phono cable touches nothing but the tonearm on one end, and the input on the phono stage at the other.  We believe this makes a difference.

While this deck is shown with armboards made in matching Waterfall Bubinga, numerous additional options are possible for armboard material, including austenitic stainless steel,  bronze alloys,  acetal delrin, aluminum, most any hardwood or softwood, and man made slate.

The plinth is a true 'CLD' core, utilizing a layer of German Panzerholz as the damping layer.

This well seasoned Bubinga was sliced to a little less than 1/8", and then surfaced to a thickness of about 1.8mm in our shop.   This is not to be mistaken for the paper thin commercially produced veneers used by others,  throughout the consumer furniture industry.

The Bubinga used in the creation of this plinth is instrument grade solid wood, vacuum pressed and bonded with structural epoxy, meaning that this is a piece built to become an hierloom.

The finish of the plinth is catalyzed clear polyester, the exact finish used by many of the top guitar makers, including at least one of the 'big names', and also in high end piano finishing.  This finish is extremely durable,  much more so than automotive finishes, and is highly resistant to 'swirlies', or, the fine scratches which are left in high gloss finishes over time from dusting.     It is a fully 'color sanded', fully polished finish.

This is the natural color of this wood, we never use stains or tint our clear coat on exotic woods, as we feel that stains and tinted clear coats diminish and inhibit the chatyoance and inherent beauty of the natural woods, and, as we produce all our own veneers, the natural colors of the woods we use are always fresh, bright, and beautiful.   As always, any finished wood which is visible on the plinth is always from the same board, from adjacent slices, to ensure a uniform color and grain pattern.  We do often use complimentary species of wood for armboards in the case of plinths with articulating armboards, though only with client input..

You will not find a better sounding, better built, or better finished built wood based plinth.

Over the past 14 years,  Woodsong Audio has gained a reputation of being one of the top rebuilders of Garrards.  We take extreme pride in our work, and stand fully behind every turntable we build.

The 301 motor unit has been fully restored to better than new condition in every respect.

Starting with the paint, this chassis was media blasted, and
finished in PPG's top line automotive basecoat/ clearcoat system, with
every detail carefully attended to in rder to ensure a long lasting,
extremely beautiful paint job.

 The main bearing has
been replaced with the Woodsong 301 bearing housing, with close
tolerance Torlon liners and a truly great thrust bearing design.  This
bearing is quieter than the stock bearing, with significantly lower Wow
& Flutter and better speed stability, without harming the signature
Garrard idler drive sound.  The Original stock 301 bearing is very well
engineered,  but not engineered to be a top quality audiophile bearing.
In fact, the original bearing leaves a lot to be desired from an
audiophile standpoint.

 The original, poisonous Cadmium
plating has been removed from the linkages, and the linkages re-plated
in long lasting yellow Zinc.

All springs are replaced,
along with a new spark suppressor. The motor has been cleaned, coils
checked, the sintered bronze bushings recharged with the correct
lubricant in a vacuum chamber, then re-assembled and aligned for many
more years of quiet operation.

Highly flexible, silicone
jacketed motor leads replace the original, stiff motor wires, in order
to minimize transer of mechanical energy from the motor to the
surrounding structures.

A new Woodsong 60hz drive pulley is installed, and the deck runs extremely quietly at correct speed for all three ranges.

A
new Woodsong Idler wheel is installed, with a hardened stainless,
polished axle.   This is made from Delrin, with a special compound for
the drive ring, and is the quietest aftermarket idler wheel currently
available.

A new eddy brake disc is installed.

Finally,  this deck is run in for several days and then fine tuned for accurate, correct and pleasurable operation.

This deck ships in a purpose built, very secure crate, engineered to arrive intact and pristine.

At additional cost, this deck can be delivered and fully set up in your listening room.

This Garrard 301 delivers the full potential of these amazing decks.

Thank you for looking.
