I love Magnepans and have since the 1970s. They sound real to me. One, their image is life size. Most box speakers put out smaller-than-life images. Not Magnepans. Two, there is also a smoothness to their sound I enjoy. Never harsh, they have the richness of live, acoustic music. Three, they don't sound boxy. A planar speaker with good side-to-side dispersion, they really can't. With all the sound that flows from them, their sound is open and three-dimensional.
The MG-1.6/QR was in Magnepan's line for about 10 years. It was widely reviewed and praised. Here are the final paragraphs from two of them:
I find it incredible that Magnepan has achieved this level of performance in a speaker that retails for $1475/pair. In my 20 years of involvement in the audio hobby, I can't think of another product that has offered as much performance for as little money as the MG1.6/QR. Highly—very highly—recommended. - Stereophile
MG1.6s, priced at just $1775/pair, are arguably the greatest bargains in high-end audio. Though some competing speakers do certain things better, the MG1.6s manage, overall, to sound more like live music than anything else in their price class. And isn’t that what this game is all about? - The Absolute Sound
Ask any Maggie fan. There is magic in their speakers. They do like power and to be a few feet away from walls but if you can do that, for $799 a pair, you won't find a better speaker, period.

Buy with confidence. I have 30 years of experience in selling stereos, 21 of them owning my own store. My store, Sound World in La Crosse, Wisconsin, was twice named Retailer Of The Year by AudioVideo magazine in the 1990s, an honor reserved mostly for the big box retailers, not a single owner operation in a town of 70,000. I have helped thousands of customers over the years and am confident I can satisfy you, too. My store's customer service policy was simple: we'll take care of you.
Questions for the seller |

Are the speakers sonically correct?
Any buzzing, etc? No, they sound great. Over the past couple of months, I heard them in two houses, hooked up to different systems, and they sounded wonderful in each setting. |
Thanks for the quick response.
I'll give you your asking price, you take care of the shipping. ..
I live in East Lansing, MI .... Thank you for your interest but I will pass on your offer. |
I'm close to pulling the trigger on these speakers. Do you offer a warranty, just a short one, on these speakers? You have 14 days after receiving the speakers to return them for a full refund. I will also make this pledge to you. If the speakers are defective, I will pay for the return shipping to La Crosse, WI. I know the speakers work perfectly, having listened to them on different stereos in two locations over the past couple of months. |
