Capriccio Continuo Auralea 309 Elegant Italian

Caprico Continuum is not the first name one would conjure when asked for the name of a highend Italian speaker.  Sonus Faber on the other hand has high name recognition and superb reputation.  So, it may interest the buyer to know that Joseph Szall the owner of Caprico Continuum has a strong reputation in the design and manufacture of drivers that can be found in Sonus Faber speakers.  AAudio Imports distributed these speakers in the U.S. for a short time.  The Auralea 309 Performance, is a two-way floorstanding model that features a Heil-derivative floating aero striction tweeter and a 6.5” mid/woofer using an IMN cone.  The shape of this speaker is a case of form follows function. The principle used is the arch dam with the inner side concave, the outer side convex, internally very heavily braced and damped, front and rear panels non-parallel. The entire rigid structure is designed to control and eliminate resonant behavior.

It manages to pack a lot of technology into a uniquely styled very modestly-sized floorstander that can illuminate a room with a big sonic portrait without dominating it visually. It makes few practical sacrifices for its room-friendly dimensions outside of absolutes in volume level and bass extension and the relatively high efficiency and power handing make the speaker suitable for a wide variety of successful matches. The key strengths are high detail married with a sense of overall warmth. Recorded flaws are still there but not highlighted. This black lacquer pair have had just break in hours.  They were used in my temporary listening room in Greenville. They provide decent sound and magnificent presence that only an Italian designer could create.  I am going to pass these on at a very good below market price since I was able to buy them at dealer cost.
