Audiophile: 16 Killer Classical LP Gems, TAS, Decca, EMI, RCA, Angel, Philips, Argo…Great Sound, Mostly Near Mint!

THIS IS AN AMAZING PRICE FOR THIS GROUP OF LPS!!!

Folks, there’s lots great stuff here, including several TAS Superdisc Titles (one of them HIGHLY Desirable). Everything is of Audiophile Quality Sound, and these are, with several exceptions, in Near Mint condition! Just look how nice the spines are! These handsome copies will look good on your record shelf, too. There are 15 titles and 16 LPs.

Some of the highlights:

—Vaughan Williams “Symphony #5; Tallis Fantasia”, w/Sir John Barbirolli and the Philharmonia Orchestra and Sinfonia of London. Pure, classic Barbirolli, for most this version of the “Tallis Fantasia” is the finest ever put on record, recorded in Glorious Analog from the early 1960’s, and the “#5” is a personal favorite. Clean, crisp UK EMI pressing from the 1970’s with a handsome laminated jacket. A very special release.

—John Williams “Pops in Space”, w/John Williams and the Boston Pops. This includes both music from Star Wars and Superman, but for me, the highlight is the “Close Encounters Suite”, taking up nearly nearly half of side 2, and is some of the strangest and most evocative and striking music he ever wrote. A clean, crisp copy which includes the original advertising strip.

— “Espana”, w/Ataulfo Argenta and the London Symphony Orchestra. TAS Superdisc Title, this is probably one of the most famous Decca recordings ever issued, and one of the most sought after. This rare gem is THE ORIGINAL UK DECCA SXL 2020 FFSS PRESSING from around 1960. That’s the good news; the not so good news is that this is the only title from this collection that’s not NM. Side One (which is the side most people play) is somewhere between Very Good Plus to Excellent; Side Two is only Good, and does have some problems, though nothing that would be a “needle buster”. Near Mint copies of this go for around $400 to $600, so you can see that I’ve greatly reduced the price. A STUNNING RECORDING!!!

— Two RCA VICS titles from the 1960’s, both of which were recorded by Decca for RCA with legendary sound, and these are the 1960’s “Plum Label” releases.

—Vaughan Williams “Flos Campi; Oxford Elegy”, w/David Willcocks and the Jacques Orchestra and King’s College Choir. Part of the legendary Vaughan Williams Choral Music Box Set, which is a TAS Superdisc title, these are both stunning recordings and performances. Comes in a handsome textured sleeve; a clean, crisp copy.

— “The Art of the Recorder”, w/David Munrow and Ensemble. Munrow is literally responsible for putting medieval and renaissance music back on the international road map. Looking like Donovan’s brother, during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, he had Rock Star status in London, and his releases are fascinating, amazing journeys, not to mention the recordings: EMI gave him their very best sound, which was always Stunning! Very handsome 2 LP Box set with a fascinating and attractive booklet.

And the stuff I didn’t write about is just as wonderful; these are solid titles with world-class sound covering a variety of styles and periods; everything here received 3 stars in The Penguin Stereo Record Guide, along with TAS Superdisc Status.

I have photographed the spines to give you a very clear idea of what’s here.
