Modified BDP-95 Options We have two versions of the player available, the OPPO BDP-95 Reference and OPPO BDP-95 Signature. Both versions of the player offer a significant step-up in performance compared to the stock player. Both Reference & Signature players upgrade HDMI, digital output & 7.1-channel audio outputs, with the focus primarily on delivering the best possible 2-channel & 5.1-channel audio. AC Power Supply The performance of any Audio Visual product is influenced considerably by the quality of the AC power. The last link in the AC chain, that 6ft of cable before it reaches your equipment is the most critical. But what about once it has reached the AC inlet, or beyond? At Audiocom we looked at various solutions to improve the performance of AC power inside the equipment, different types of AC filters of which many gave good results, but without exception there were always tradeoffs; so what you gained in one hand you lost in the other. The only solution that worked without compromise are the Bybee Super Effect AC Bullets, it is also the most expensive solution. The SE Bullets operate on a Quantum level, removing 1/f noise and improving the flow of electrons, this is very different to other types of AC conditioning. The SE Bullets work in conjunction with AC mains regenerators, balanced power units, etc, which only serve to maximise the effect. With the “Super Effect” Bullets the sound has a palpability, presence and 3D quality, music flows in a coherent manner, is more intelligible, making long term listening effortless. Similarly, picture has incredible 3D depth, stunning contrasts; clean, vivid colours. Ultra-low Jitter Clock System Jitter is the bugbear of anything digital. Audio quality, video quality are all comprised if jitter levels are not kept to the lowest possible. Audiocom have been developing low jitter clocks for 14 years, and the name “Superclock” is associated with the best clocks in the world. A key advantage is that Superclock 4 uses a pure sine-wave analogue oscillator for lowest phase noise. Almost all other clocks use an on-chip TCXO which may have “precision” in terms of temperature but does not offer low phase noise. Another key advantage is the dual, discrete ultra-low noise regulated supplies based on the lowest noise voltage reference, the MAX6126. The analogue and digital stages of the clock each has its own separator regulator for cleanest power and minimal power supply crosstalk. Bybee Music Rail A low jitter clocks performance is only as good as the power supply that feeds it. Further regulating the power supply before the clock had no impact on performance. Enter the Bybee Music Rails! Measured performance reduces noise on the DC supply line by up to 45db. This provides the clock with clean power without the need for more complex and problematic out-of-box solutions. Analogue Power Supply The performance of the analogue power supply is fundamental to the sound quality you hear, noise in = noise out. If we reduce the noise we start to hear more detail, achieve better dynamics, reveal the subtleties that bring a piece of music alive. The recipe for success here is not simple, but get it right and the results can be outstanding. Audiocom’s 16 years of experience in component quality, matching and synergy was put to full use when modifying the OPPO 95 power supply. The upgraded power supply features power supply filtering capacitors by Mundorf and discrete, low noise regulation providing a significant step up in sound quality from CD/SACD playback and multi-channel audio. Resonance Control Vibration (Microphony) in equipment is a performance killer, but then the wrong type of “damping” is equally bad. When researching methods to control equipment resonance, we realised that damping equipment (Bitumen, etc) removes some resonance frequencies but also dampens the sound in a negative way. We only want to remove resonant frequencies harmful to the audio & video bands. It was clear that a single type of material could not be 100% effective, so we use several different types of materials at key points for optimum results. The best resonance control is made by two companies, Sontech of Sweden and Steinmusic of Germany. In the Signature version we use SontechVF22 AL and Vibramet (chassis and top cover) in conjunction with Steinmusic Maestro lacquer (PCB’s) and E-Pad’s (BD Drive). Combined these materials form the most comprehensive resonance control available.
