New pair of Rega RX1 speakers. I played them once, and then I moved into a new house where I decided to switch to tower speakers. In several reviews, some prefer the RX1 over the popular KEF LS50 speakers. I'll have to agree, having tried them both. Like all audiophile things, it's subjective and personal. This is a great bookshelf speaker from a solid UK company. I'm listing them below their retail value to clear some space. They perform superbly.
FROM REGA: "The Rega RX-ONE loudspeaker system delivers balance, detail and dynamics thanks to a unique handmade set of Rega designed drivers and crossovers. The newly developed DX-125 bass mid-range driver (using a doped paper cone) is at the heart of the RX range and combines perfectly with the Rega ZRR high frequency unit. Both mounted in a larger cabinet constructed from 18mm MDF and covered in a choice of beautiful real wood veneers, the RX-ONE will integrate perfectly into any home delivering exceptional performance within a wide range of systems."
Audiot UK —The latest RX1 loudspeakers from Rega now benefit from slightly bigger 18mm MDF cabinets covered in beautiful real wood veneers. The Rega ZRR HF unit combines perfectly with a new DX-125, doped, mid-bass driver that are all handmade with upgraded gold connection terminals that are used throughout the range. The RX1 is a truly beautiful sounding stand mount speaker. It retains the entertaining musical sound of the old RS1 and adds greater openess, accuracy and dynamics that combine to make this is an exceptional compact speaker.
HI-Fi Choice — Lively accurate and spacious performance, easy to drive. The RX1 hits back with tonal accuracy and the sense of fun it brings to music. It brings energy to its performance that can elude the more matter of fact KEF LS50 and its sensitivity makes for a very keen competitor to the KEF that many people will prefer.
