Audio Research VS-115. “It’s Still Christmas!”

Up for sale is my one owner VS-115 tube amplifier from Audio Research Corp (ARC). This is one serious amplifier!  It was my first audiophile level tube amplifier purchase and boy did I hit the jackpot! It is not to be confused with the VS-110 as it provides more wattage and also utilizes Balanced XLR inputs (RCA too) for ultra black backgrounds and low noise floor musical output.  It took a while for me to figure it out but when I first demo’d the amp my dealer A/B demonstrated this and a MacIntosh amp against it.  I have always known and wanted a Mac system but was completely surprised when hands down I preferred the performance of the ARC VS-115. It was warm and gave a tube presentation but was not overly colored or syrupy sounding!  Its handling of bass notes was supurb and gave a real deal soundstage with plenty of depth and holographic presentation.  It handled my 88.5db Vienna Accoustic Beethoven Concert Grand Speakers with aplumb and controlled bass with grip and taughtness.  At the time I purchased the amp the best tube available was the 6550C but ARC soon authorized the use of KT-120 tubes and an already great performer began to punch wayyy above its weight! I’m a jazz fan but grew up in the era of Pop, R&B and Carlos Santana “Abraxis” and love the way it handles any task thrown from low to high volume.

I purchased it new from my local ARC dealer in Dallas in 2011 and have always had it serviced by them and purchased selected tubes from ARC. The unit is in excellent condition and appearance with few, if any signs of wear and use, appearance wise.  It has a barely discernible hum (very low level - put your ear to the speaker to hear) when idle with no music being output.  There is no discernable performance degradation whatsoever when at play. The unit bias’ and holds bias perfectly.

I have the original shipping box and packaging as well as manual and the KT-120 tubes (ARC provided) are just barely broken in with around 400 hrs since new.
