Questions for the seller
Interesting amp. How did you end up with the prototype? Is the circuit different from the production run? What is its age? And, who can/will service it (if needed)?
Through industry associations I was exposed to Berning products in the early 2000's. I admire their design philosophy, sonic attributes and reliability. Over those years I also developed an association with the principals at the Berning company. In early 2009, I was offered by David the opportunity to purchase a hand-wired prototype of a new 30 watt stereo amp they were going to soon put into production. I purchased the amp and it has been the sole source of amplification in my system since that time. I also own and am keeping and using in my system a prototype Pre One preamplifier with phono. This amplifier has been totally dependable in the 9 years I have been using it. Over that time it's had one power tube failure. I noticed this failure one day the amp failed to come up. I had tubes on hand and replaced the failed tube. The amp came up right away and has been performing flawlessly ever since. Aside from being hand-wired, I am not aware that its circuit is in any way different from production units. David and another technician who resides in Indiana are available to service this amp and all other Berning products. Thank you for your questions.
Many thanks for the details. I am intrigues by this amp, but have one concern. My speakers are 86db 4 ohm and I am not sure the amp will work.
I believe you would be putting about 40 watts/channel into your 4 ohm speakers. Whether or not you feel they would be driven sufficiently would be a purely subjective decision on your part. My speakers are 6 ohm of similar efficiency. I can drive them to mid 90db levels at the listening position in my 18x36x7.5 room with this amp.
