Meridian DSP-8000 

This is the flagship speaker from Meridian in its original DSP8000 form.  Very exclusive and difficult to source.  I cant find a single pair in the US for sale.

This particular units were sold new ($65,000) to our client new many years ago and were well cared for.  A move and downsizing prompted this client to return them  to us and we were happy to get a chance to hear them again.  Wow, they are as nimble and powerful as we remembered.  These are capable of over 118db mostly due to their 5 internal amplifiers (150W for each pair of woofers, 100W for the tweeter and 100W for the mid).

Current version DSP-8000SE retails for $80k.  There is an upgrade available from Meridian which brings these original speakers to the SE designation by replacing the electronic pack and the tweeter resulting in an updated DAC as well.  This upgrade is a viable for $20k but we would be willing to upgrade them for you for and additional $15k.  Drop us a note if interested.  

Condition is very good for its age.  The gloss black paint is super clean and most buyers (except front he super critical ones) will be pleased.  There is a ding on front lower corner of one of the satélites but its not very noticeable.   All the drivers are absolutely perfect and the amplifiers all work as they should.  The grills are also perfect (not pictured). 

While most people will use these speakers as part of a Meridian system they work very well as a stand-alone system.  They feature two digital inputs and come with their own remote so it would make for a great, super simple digital system.   Connecting a simple media streamer would result in a complete system capable of outperforming just about anything out there.  We recently auditioned these with a Mytek Manhattan connected directly to the digital input and got amazing results.  Simplicity at its best!  A pairing with a Meridian Zone Controller would also provide a simple and powerful solution.  Of course, you can also chose to integrate them with a full blown Merdian system as most will do.

Freight shipping in the continental US will be a flat $600.  Speakers will be boxed and strapped to a pallet.  

There are many glowing reviews for you to read on the internet so I wont go on and on about these.  Keep in mind this is a flagship product from an amazing and innovative UK based company and they don’t come up for sale very often so if you’ve wanted a set this may be your best chance.  While the price tag may be high for a set of speakers, keep in mind they essentially include an internal amplifier, preamplifier and DAC which Ian my opinion makes them a great audio bargain.

Meridian 8000 Floorstanding Speakers 

The DSP8000 is designed to reproduce sounds at up to full natural level while providing all the resolution required by sources of up to 24bit and 192kHz. Such demanding dynamic resolution called for a new approach to cabinet construction and selection of advanced drive unit materials. 

DSP loudspeaker drivers 

Each DSP8000 loudspeaker uses six multiple high-efficiency long-throw custom bass drive units. The bass units are mounted symmetrically in pairs on the sides of the bass cabinet, cancelling vibration in order to minimise interference with the mid-range and treble units. 

The treble and mid-range drivers are mounted in a separate sealed head assembly. The treble unit is a semi-horn-loaded composite dome design with a silver voice coil. The mid-range unit incorporates a cone made from a uniquely light and stiff combination of polymers to give unparalleled transparency. 

Power amplifiers 

The speakers are driven by five independent high-power low-feedback power amplifiers mounted on a multi-finned extruded heatsink. The combination of optimised magnetic design, careful star earthing, and very fast output devices gives the amplifiers extremely low noise, high detail, and fast bass. 

The whole electronic assembly is supplied from two substantial toroidal transformers feeding high-quality audiophile-grade capacitors. 

Cabinet 

Each DSP8000 loudspeaker is built within a precision manufactured cabinet, which uses innovative design techniques to give exceptionally low coloration and exquisite mid-range transparency. 

The head assembly is a sealed enclosure fabricated from curved pressure-laminated panels, each using multiple layers of selected woods and metal to provide high stiffness and damping. Its narrow, tapered shape offers optimum dispersion across a wide listening area. It is supported on the bass enclosure by three machined feet. 

Like the head unit, the bass cabinet is constructed from interlaminated panels with extensive bracing. The front panel is 6mm glass and incorporates a window for the matrix display and infrared remote control sensor. The cabinet stands on triangulated adjustable machined foot assemblies with provision for floor spikes or skids.

We do not accept of review any offers that do not go through the official Audiogon system.  We have too many items for sale and its nearly impossible to keep track offers outside the system.  Please don’t message, email or text any offers.

PAYMENTS

We prefer working through PayPal, which allows you to use a credit card or bank transfer.  We do not charge extra for any payment fees if you purchase the item at the asking price.  You can also send us a personal check (which will need to clear before shipping), certified check, money order or wire transfer.  International clients without access to PayPal should use a bank wire transfer. 

If you are picking up an item, we don not accept PayPal, you must pay in person with cash, certified or bank check or wire transfer.  If you make a PayPal payment and are picking up the item it will be returned. 

TRADE IN POLICY 

We accept trade-ins of equal or lesser value under certain conditions.  Simply ask and let us know the exact model, condition and what accessories are included such as a box, remote, manual, etc.  We will only consider high-end equipment from mainstream manufacturers such as McIntosh, Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Krell, etc. and will typically pass on displays, projectors, receivers, dated processors and mid-fi equipment of any type.  We will offer a fair value for your equipment, but keep in mind we are running a business and will need to be able to sell the equipment at a profit after investing a great deal of time and resources in testing, certifying, repairing, cleaning and packaging the incoming equipment.  If you are looking for top dollar we suggest attempting to sell it directly to an end user.  

SELL US YOUR GEAR (Working or Broken)

We will also purchase your used or broken gear and arrange pickup if you are in our local market.  Just drop us a note for a quote, but be sure to include the condition and what is included.  

HOW TO VISIT US

We are currently operating from a residence in Ridgewood, NJ.  You are welcome to make an appointment if there is a piece of equipment you would like to see in operation before or after purchase.  We have a well-equipped, dedicated listening room with tons of equipment of all makes and models.  We are not a store, so please don’t make an appointment if you are just curious as to how a speaker or piece of equipment sounds.  In essence, no tire kickers please.  

If you are in NYC and cannot make it out to Ridgewood, we can arrange pickup in Union Square (14th Street) after the purchase.   You can call or text  (646) 852-2073 with any questions or to schedule an appointment.  We can also arrange to install, calibrate and tune the gear in your listening room if you are in the local area.  This is super useful when purchasing large speakers or heavy amplifiers.  It is also great for ensuring your new turntable is setup correctly in its final resting place.
