For the last two years I have been following the new products from Elac of Germany. A few years ago they hired Andrew Jones to
design their new line and the reviews on these products have been
nothing short of amazing. Andrew is an extremely talented designer who I
met and did some work with 22 years ago when he was at Infinity. In
the years after he left infinity he worked with Pioneer, TAD and now
Elac. Andrew has designed products from $150.00 a pair at Pioneer up to
$50,000 a pair at TAD and is one of the most talented designers that I
know.
When Elac
debuted their entry speakers two years ago I thought they were
excellent, but I had some killer Gallo closeouts that offered clearly
better value. In addition, my typical customer is not looking at $199.00
speakers. However, in the last 2 years Elac has introduced the Uni-Fi series at $499.00 for the monitor and $999.00 for the floor-stander. They also just introduced the Adante hi end series at $2499.00/pr for the monitors and $4999.00/pr for the floor-standers. These models along with the unique powered subs that do auto-room correction from your smart phone are statement products that offer amazing value.
We have picked up the line and are now selling the Elac brand at Underwood Hifi
The AF61 is their top of the Adante line that Andrew just came out with.
The AF61 uses an Elac 5.25" coaxial midrange/tweeter with a 1-inch soft dome, concentrically mounted tweeter. It then uses three (3) 6.5" internally mounted cavity coupled woofers that drive three front mounts sub bass radiators. Andrew first used this type of design at KEF in the 104/2 speaker that was an industry leader when introduced.
