Here we have an excellent condition pair of AKG K812 reference headphones. These are open back headphones with a phenomenal soundstage width and depth. I assume if you are looking at this then you know what these are, if not I recommend doing your homework as there is a lot of info online about these. These are amazingly accurate, no weird bass or treble peaks, just nice, open & airy smooth sound. They have bass, but they probably won't satisfy you if your a basshead (I hate using that term but everybody else uses it). What determines a basshead is still a bit of a mystery to me to be honest, but you can read all about these online to get your own idea or opinion of them. If you have become used to the sound of Stax Lambdas but always wanted more bottom end for example, then you will like these. They have much of the same open, airy and detailed top end that the Stax do, but they are far better in the bass than the Stax are. I suspect that the closest equivalent to these (from another vendor) would be the Sennheiser HD800"S". Note the "S"... the "S" version has improved bass over the non "S" version of the HD800. Anyway, these are from the newer manufacturing plant in Slovakia (all AKG's are now made in Slovakia). The build quality is incredible, among the best I have ever seen in headphones.
Why am I selling these? Well, for one I simply have too much gear (been collecting >30 years), two is due to divorce, three is that as I went through numerous different types of headphones, including Audeze LCD-X (which I sold previously).

After selling the LCD-X I inadvertently started down a path (Fostex and older Denon) that I felt was perhaps moving away from "accurate" and leading towards "fun" with hyped bass and hyped treble, that was great until I decided to try something else.

Then I purchased some Sony MDR-Z7 (former TOTL flagship) headphones and ended up with an entirely different sound signature, which I found myself liking, but then I thought good grief now what? I had to purchase some headphones that I could trust as "reference" headphones so I purchased these AKG's used but in excellent condition.
Listening to these AKG's proved to me that the modified Sony's (MDR-Z7) are much closer to the truth than my Fostex and older Denon's IMO.
I say "older Denon's" because in my effort to get a "reference" headphone I also purchased a pair of the current Denon AH-D7200 headphones. Those are much better than the older models in my opinion. There is no discernible hyped bass or hyped treble in those new Denon's. The soundstage capability on the Denon's is not in the same league as the AKG's however, but the bass on the new Denon's is better. The Denon's are also going to be posted for sale as well.

Then it happened... I bought the very expensive current TOTL Sony MDR-Z1R ($2,300) headphones. For my taste, those hit the spot exactly and I am now willing to let go of these reference headphones.

Along the way I have found that headphones are very subject to personal preferences. Even though there are numerous websites like headfi.org where people have tested, reviewed, and analyzed headphones in every possible way, and there are gazillions of reviews, in the end you will still end up having to find that sound that you like, and that may not be what everyone else likes, or what everyone else says is "the best".

But, if you do your homework, read reviews from several sites, talk to other audiophiles, and actually buy some headphones to see if they "hit the spot", you will no doubt be rewarded with some of the best experiences you could ever ask for.
One other note, I found along the way that headphones will respond very differently depending on what you are using to drive them with. So, to get the best results you really should have a good source to drive them with. I won't go into specifics or make recommendations, but it goes without saying that even the greatest headphones will sound mediocre if the source isn't up to the task.
So, there you have it. These are in excellent condition, almost like new. They sound excellent but I no longer have any need for them so I am passing them along at a fantastic price since I did not pay full retail for them.
And yes... the wooden headphone stand is included.
