*** UPDATE Sept 14 ***

Hi all, I've had several folks who have expressed interest but who were not able to pick up locally. While my preference would still be for anyone to come and audition and pick the speakers up in person if possible, I would be willing to sell and ship within the Continental US if needed (Buyer pays shipping). Note that the box dimensions and weight is for one speaker as they ship in separate boxes. Please reach out with any questions. Thanks!

*** Original Post ***

Hello- I'm offering for sale my like-new pair of Focal Sopra No 3s that were purchased from my local dealer just this past April (as of now, they are less than 5 months old). Nothing is wrong with the speakers and they perform flawlessly. They are the natural wood-grain finish and are in perfect condition. Everything provided from the dealer with the original purchase is included (grills, manuals, spikes, floor-protector discs, protective sleeves, shipping boxes and packing material). My reason for selling is that I've found I don't listen to my stereo as much as I had expected, and my financial priorities have changed and I need cash for home improvements. So yes, I'm basically selling a like-new set of Focal Sopra No 3s that have just barely been broken-in.

They are consecutive serial numbers, pair very well with neutral sounding gear, and (dependent on the signal feeding them of course) deliver remarkable mids and silky, airy, feathery highs. Be warned... these speakers are extremely transparent and revealing… as in you will hear audible differences from the smallest changes to your system and you’ll quickly become an expert about which recording engineers know what they’re doing and which do not. But don’t worry too much… despite this revealing transparency, even many of my “bad” recordings still sound good enough to make me want to listen… because the Sopras’ high-resolution reveals musical discoveries from bad recordings as well as good.

On the plus side you will hear subtleties uncovered in well-loved recordings you never knew were there. This is especially true with the human voice: of all the speakers I've listened to over the years (I'm 47) the way the Focal Sopra 3s render vocals (both male and female) is astonishing. That's pretty much why I bought them. Even my non-audiophile relatives just stare in amazement as they hear discovered nuances in long-familiar recordings.

And while they are reasonably forgiving speakers as far as room placement goes (they are bottom-ported rather than rear-ported, so bass-bloat is minimized even as they are pushed close to the front wall), the soundstage, imaging, bass, and midrange-realism will (of course) all be affected by the room and how the speakers are positioned. So if you end up living with these (or just about any other high-resolution speakers for that matter) have some patience and expect to spend a few weeks "dialing in" the system to get your dream-sound. This won't come as a surprise to most seasoned audiophiles... I just want to point out that it's helpful if you "enjoy the process" of tuning your stereo and don't get frustrated as you experiment... it’s part of the fun!

In any case, if you’re reading this add and feel captivated by thought of owning a pair of Focal Sopra No 3s you probably know what they sound like and have some experience with setting up a high-end music system. Continental U.S. purchasers and local pick-up only (I live in Bowie Maryland, very close to Washington DC) and prefer cash as method of payment (to avoid Paypal service fees. Or add 3% if you choose to use Paypal). If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Looking forward to hearing from you.

-Dave

p.s. yes, in the photos you can see the Bose audio system for the TV... please don't judge me... that system belongs to my partner who thinks it's wonderful so it had to stay :-)
