The LKV Research 2-SB is a state of the art all discrete class-A
solid-state phono preamp and possibly among the best solid-state phono stages
on the market today (and I’ve compared it to a few high-end ones). The 2-SB is
comprised of two chassis, one being a massive analog regulated power supply. Please
read the rave reviews on the web as well as many enthusiastic comments in
various forums, and you’ll realize that this equipment is indeed state of the
art. The huge advantage over tube phono preamps is that the 2-SB uses very
little power and therefore can (and should) be left on continually. This
enhances the sound quality and prolongs the life of the components. By
contrast, tube phono preamps need at least an hour of warm-up to sound their
best and they cannot be left on continually for obvious reasons, not to mention
tube deterioration with usage.
The preamp is very flexible in terms of settings of gain and
load to match most cartridges MC or MM. With a good cartridge it will produce a
very wide soundstage, very warm, and very dynamic sound. Furthermore, it’s
virtually silent because of the quality of the implementation of the discrete circuitry.
I’ve had this preamp for about 2 years and the reason for
selling is that I’m going all digital. I’m the original owner, and the unit is
in very good condition without any dents and/or scratches. There is one tiny
modification done by the dealer: the factory ground connector was replaced with
a heavy duty one, much sturdier than the original. The unit will be shipped in
its original factory box with some non-factory packing materials. The manual
and a related document included. Shipping and PayPal fee included at the posted price.
