Up for sale is a VTL ST150 in great condition. Over 150 watts per channel (300 watts of stereo power), this stereo amplifier offers superb musical clarity and plenty of power in one compact chassis. This is one of my favorite tube amps, but I am not alone in that sentiment:
"VTL’s ST-150 is a relatively compact yet powerful 6550-based stereo power amp capable of driving a wide range of speaker loads. This classic all-tube push/pull design delivers 150Wpc in its tetrode mode, and, via the flick of a rear-panel toggle, 70Wpc in triode operation. For those who might be intimidated by the idea of tubes, VTL has made the ST-150’s manual bias-adjustment fairly straightforward. Sonically, this is a beauty of an amplifier, with highly natural tonal and textural delivery, an impressive layering of dynamics, as well as nice drive and transient pop, and a strong degree of transparency back to the original session. The sense, as it should be, is not of listening to gear but that the gear is a conduit for the music."

"… one of the rarest tube designs …"
“The power amp continues the VTL tradition, succeeding in the recipe of getting the advantages of the tubes with some of the positive elements of transistors.”
“In tetrode mode the ST-150 has a particular muscular and phantasmagorical sound. We would describe it as Technicolor with shiny timbres, surgical detailing , building a huge soundstage spacing all the musical images with incredible accuracy.”
“Changing the function mode in triode, the sonic character changed. It turned to a pure tube design with all the sweetness and magic we expected from a very good tube having all the dense timbres that enchant us in the triode tube."

The Golden Lion KT88's & JJ ECC81/12AT7's were used sparingly. Plenty of life left.
